Are we in danger of creating more one hit wonders in the single chart?

I know Goyte and Lady Antbellum have albums out, but have you noticed technically they are one hit wonders in the singles charts with "Someone I Used To Know" and "I Need You Now". It seems a common trait is get a big hit.....and it still played returning to the charts.

Who do you think is to blame and what can be done?

Can Lady Antbellum be counted as I Need You Now was never really a hit over here?

Gotye, as far as I'm aware, hasn't released his second single?
Lady Antebellum are always going to find it hard, country music doesn't do well over here so for their song to float around in top 40 for a few weeks is a hit in terms of country music, but nothing stopping them again if they have an equally good song.

I wouldn't say it's becoming a common place... I'd say there a way more 'singles artists'
The likes of Jason Derulo, Jay Sean, Taio Cruz, Pitbull, Flo Rida...Their whole careers are based on creating a few catchy club singles to sell bucket loads, whilst spending little effort/time on their albums as a whole... And rightly so, they don't sell albums.

Goyte has been singing for years... He's not a fresh artist.. he's just an artist who's suddenly had a hit.. He didn't get signed solely to sell bucketloads of one catchy song/ringtone in the way Soulja Boy did.

Proper (first single) one hit wonders like Owl City and Carly Rae Jespen (Probably) have been around for years.

Think Wayne Wonder, Kardinal Offishall and J Kwon.

I think Carly Ray Jepsen is deffo one. She struck gold with that song.

It just annoys me that some acts have new singles but the public and radio persist on a bigger hit.

It's because now what makes a "Big hit" is any generic, Euro-pop track with repetitive, autotuned lyrics.

No one even cares who is singing them, the songs are purely bought to be chanted by drunks at parties.

It's such a shame.. But, I still believe that good music WILL still sell.

That is so true Tiki Taka. On top of that...the hype machine helps e.g Tulisa with her porn video and Cheryl with her woe is me act.

A musical revolution is needed and one day it will happen.

i doubt it, whilst it may be needed i cannot see where itll come from without being yet another retro style karaoke revival. revolution has been done, so how can another one be anything other then a copy?

besides, i dont think the youth of today have any balls, all this 'mustnt offend' politically correct bollox thats been drummed into them has left them/you immasculated.
