how exactly do you get a part in Corrie or Eastenders?

I've always wondered how current soap stars got their part in Corrie and how they heard about the auditions because auditions are never mentioned magazines or anything so how do they find out about auditions - their agents? Also,I want to know do you really need an agent to stand a chance of getting a part in a soap and what does he/she do? Finalyl, does anyone know what the audition process for Corrie/Eastenders is like? I don't want to be an actress, I'm just curious :D

Many will actually train as actors at drama school, as oppose to just randomly popping to auditions. Agents secure auditions, etc.

Although, I don't think Rob James Collier had experience.

With respect, the majority of actors and actresses on (UK) soaps, seem really bad at their 'job'. You don't really need to be a brain surgeon to go on EE or Corrie.

Virtually always through agents, and actors are expected to have Equity, plus Spotlight, membership. EastEnders hold workshops with lots of improvisation (unless it's changed again).
