The films are okay, but I'm more bored with the pomp and ceremony that goes along with the announcement of each new Bond movie now.

Were they always released as a massively hyped event before Daniel Craig?

You have to remember that 'Casino Royale' was Daniel Craig's first Bond film so there was more interest in seeing if he was up to scratch in the role of 007.

'Quantum Of Solace' was the follow-up to the incredibly successful 'Casino Royale' so everyone was eager to see if the former was as good.

'Skyfall' is released in the 50th year of James Bond films therefore massive celebrations and events are expected to happen around the film's release date.

craig has brought a new grittier darker bond to the franchise. i really like him as bond. try watching the new one it may appeal.

I'd got bored with Bond films until Daniel Craig came along. Now I can't get enough! My god, he makes a gorgeous Bond and the darker grittiness actually makes the character believable for once. Really looking forward to Skyfall for a number of reasons ;):D

I don't agree with this at all. I think it is easy to get bored of any franchise even if it's pne that supposdlly tries to reinvent itself.

Is it reinventing itself or just adapting to remain relevent? IMO it is doing that.

Bond was of it's time, but times change and IMO it's lost what it had previously. I just saw the trailer for the new one for the first time and was left feeling "meh" about it.
I admit that I've never been that big a Bond fan to begin with, but the feeling i got from that trailer was "seen it, seen, it, seen it" all the way through.
In the Seventies arguably the when it was at it's most popular period the films loookd big, expensive and an event unto itself. Now they look like every other action film that is released every other month.

    Going through the trailer.

Car chase and car tips next to camera.... seen it
Two men standing fighting on the roof of a speeding train... seen it
Various lavish big shots of scenery/landscape.... seen it.

I remember reading an article in a magazine when Pierce Brosnan was announced as the new Bond.for Goldeneye (1995) which was the first Bond film since Licence To Kill (1989) and the question was asked does the world still need James Bond?
Basically they were saying with films like Die Hard and all the 80's action films and all the other action films that are being made now things have changed and moved on.
Equally the masogonistic film series no longer fitted in with the way society was changing. Of course that has been addressed in the films since Goldeneye.

However the question as to whether the world needs and cares about Bond is still debatable. I think since 1995 more people are or were excited about other franchises such as the various comic book francises, POTC, Toy Story, Bourne, Mission Impossible and so forth more than Bond.

The Bond films will always have their fanbases and be popular, but I do wonder if people are bored of or just no interested in the franchise as much as they were or their parents were.
Each decade throws up it's own heores/characters. You had Bond in the 60's and 70's. In the 90's you had McClane, Rambo, Rocky and The Terminator, The 90's it died down a bit and more drama and family films were the most popular genres then in the 00's it was Bourne and comic books, POTC.

IMO Bond lives on thanks to the never ending TV repeats and media hype. Without those they would be things of the past.

Well it's your view and you're perfectly entitled to it but to answer your first question, yes Bond has reinvented himself. For one thing it's gone right to the beginning of his timeline with regard to his 00 status. It's more gritty, violent, with even Bond bearing the scars of his exploits. The difference between Casino Royale and Die Another Day are wholly apparent.

Bond has changed and adapted. I'll always prefer the style from the 60's to the late 90's because that is what I grew up with but I accept that the films have to changed.

I also think Bond has the advantage because they have stood the test of time. It goes back decades. Each franchises have their own merits but people like Bond for what it is. Nice mindless escapism.

I am a big Bond fan but was not a Brosnan fan...so when Daniel Craig came along...hurrah....he saved the day! Dark, mean, moody, troubled...I love it.

Cannot wait to see the film on Friday. :)

I got bored 30 years ago.
Tedious misogynist movies for the masses.
They killed off Bond's only wife because she had intelligence.

Anyone else tired of this tediously dull & boring franchise of utter crap movies ?
I am, why do people buy into this sh*t, the fact we all know what's going to happen before it starts. . .
At least kill Bond off, try something different for a change, 008 anyone . . ?
Daniel Craig, my god is he dull . .
Has anyone seen a piece of wood trying to act . . ?

Please get back under your bridge!

I loved both Casino Royale and Quantum of Solace, even more so than the previous Bond Films. Really looking forward to seeing Skyfall tomorrow night.

He's definitely aged to the point I am worried.

Both Connery/Moore (Definitely Moore) could pull it off easily as they aged, but I am not sure so about Craig.

Let's not worry about something that can't be changed, let's just enjoy. I intend to. :D

Brosnan was approximately 49 in his last outing - he didn't look it.

Must admit latest film looks poor in the trailer. CGI and same old stunts. Nothing like the flying off a cliff edge or some exciting set piece. Daniel Craig is tied to a chair again being intergated yet again. Dont like the song...dreary.

I am a major Bond fan and I have struggled to be excited about the latest film and have yet to see it. This largely stems from being disappointed with the previous two films and still having trouble seeing Daniel Craig as James Bond. I just do not feel he fits the role in any way. I also get quite frustrated when people rave about how dark and gritty the films are and they have reinvented the franchise and seem to completely forget that Timothy Dalton did the same thing a good twenty years earlier and therefore a dark and gritty Bond is nothing new ( even Roger Moore made a darker film (For Your Eyes only) and OHMSS was hardly a light film).

Critics are now commending the Craig films for the same things they criticized the Dalton films for (being dark, taking the character back to basics, being violent). The same thing happened with the Batman films where Batman Returns was ripped apart by critics for being too dark, which led to the campy later films. The critics than praised Nolan's films for exactly the same reasons they ripped apart Burton's films.

I really need to see it again, loved all the little touches in it and the developing relationship between Bond and M. And the new Q is just fabulous.

Say what you will about Craig, he's probably the only Bond that looks believably handy in a fight.
