It's landed , well impressed as I thought I would be , however it appears as though I have been sent an 8 GB model judging by the 5.75 GB of space I have left to install apps etc ......

Edit -- just checked the box and it is an 8 GB model , shame .....

Ever heard of Airplane mode? Its not all anyway...

The reason you are told to do this is that the electromagnetic radiation could interfere with flight transmissions.

They could just tell everyone to turn of the radios on all their devices but its far simpler just to tell people to switch it off.

I assume Stiggles had their phone in airplane mode in which case it wouldn't have caused any issues.

    Correct :D

Got my nexus 4 today. Love it so far. Last time I used a android was about 18 months ago and project butter certainly has made a huge improvement. Just as smooth as iOS now.

The phone itself is really good looking and feels good to hold. Very happy to sell my 4s to cover the cost of the N4.

I also bought this today, it really is a fantastic phone, so glad I opted for this phone.

Has anyone had trouble switching from wifi to 3G? My brother now has his phone but when going from wifi to wireless is sometimes having trouble connecting.

is he on latest version ? i had the odd occasion of this on my Gnex on previous android releases. toggling plane mode on and off seemed to fix it but check for software updates - not sure what its shipping with at the mo.

Airplane mode has got nothing to do with it. They tell you to switch off ALL devices.

Lock screen, home screen, and two others. Not using all 5 screens, three is fine for me. I'm a bit of a minimalist. Also don;t like putting app icons on the screens and use apex Launcher with the carousel to display the apps i use most. Got a few widgets though, google play music, Tune in etc.

That background is actually a live wallpaper and it's scrolling, looks really sharp. It's called Glowing Neon Highway

    https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.mako.highway&hl=en

So let's see what you guys have done! Just use screen capture, volume down button + power button will snap the screen. Can do like me, up it to dropbox and link it up.

Actually, it does. It was brought in years ago in case it did interfere but it doesn't. There has never been a single case of it. It's stuck to now minimise annoyance to other PAX while on take off or landing. I fly often and have never been scolded or even looked at while using a camcorder.

Pilots in fact use cameras sometimes on take off and landing and even upload them to youtube as seen here http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=t4wlG7mUnZE and many others.

Haha! Yeah! Well i rooted it last week and installed a custom rom on it but it ran horribly so i reverted back to stock. That of course wipes everything on the phone and i couldn't be arsed setting it up again lol :D

Yeah, off to Elounda in Crete in June to see more wedding locations. Well she is, I'm sunbathing :D

Ahh rooting, not sure I am gonna bother with it. Many ROMS promise so much but aren't all that stable. usually at least one key feature is messed up. Loving how gorgeous it is, as it is, and besides, we're running pure google, will always be up to date. Unless there was some specific rom you were going for?

Wedding locations eh? Yeah let the missus do all that, put your feet up, have a martini, it's all good!

Aye. Well i was looking for one that had Google Wallet running which one did but it was rough as hell. Stock for me is absolutely fine for now.

Simple question: do they tell you to switch all devices off before take off or not?

Yep, you find someone has learnt how to use a compiler but that's about it.
All the idiots saying 'well done' when the thing is a right turd makes it worse.

CyanogenMod seems to have been made into the biggest joke out there.

They do, and it is not just because of electronic interference. It is also to make sure that the crew have your attention.

I feel for the stewardesses as hardly anyone pays attention ;)

I used a few custom ROMs on S2 before, but in the end always went back to stock ROM. There was always just something not right.

    Quite correct.
Though more and more airlines are offering Wi-Fi on flights, so the whole turn the phone off interfering with navigation eqpt is a crock.

Phone ordered 11pm Thurs in hand today 9am.

that would be aircraft certified wifi. And its in flight only, not take off and landing.

ive been using customs ROMs on and off for years on my Desire and GNex. Some are great, some not so. Where the real benefits can be made is with the custom kernels.

ICS and beyond are the first instances of Android that (IMHO) dont need a lot of tweaking. My Nexus 7 is still on stock and I see no reason to change that. My Transformer is on a custom ROM to get the latest Android version. My GNex is on custom as its just what i tweak when im bored :D
