David Tennant stars in this drama as Will Burton, a highly talented junior barrister who is in great demand, having never lost a case, much to the frustration of his courtroom rival Maggie Gardner. I have often wondered how defence lawyers justify defending the indefensible to themselves. For instance the vile Mark Bridger.

How do they sleep at night - particularly if they get someone off when they suspect they were actually guilty.

A large cheque usually helps them sleep.

Having asked many barristers this same question they told me it's not a moral case of guilty/not guilty but how best to present the case to get them off.

I always wondered this too. I'm glad they said that the defence barrister doesn't know that they are guilty when defending them.

I used to ask the same thing how Solicitors could act for the parents of children who they had abused when I worked for Childrens Services.
