Have your heard this rumour,Because I have and it sounds pretty promising!

At the momment we have pocket tv's with 5 channels-dont we?
Well theres supposed to be a new pocket ONdigital television comming out in the next year or so.
It will have around 20 channels,Plus exclusive channels not available on the ordinary ONdigital box.
It will be in full colour, and has the technology to be crystal clear, send e-mails (Pocket Mail) and play a few games.
The e-mail service will be used by having a cable comming out of the pocket tv,which you will connect to your phoneline.
The games will be already stored in the system.
Theres some channels already lined-up for the ONdigital pocket tv
such as:
BBC ONE
BBC TWO
ITV
ITV2
CHANNEL 4
CHANNEL 5
SKY ONE
MTV
NICKELODEON
PARAMOUNT

The price of the tv will be around £200+
Plus a £13+ subscription rate per month. The subscription will be recorded by a little plastic card.

There will be NO premium channels, request channels available on the pocket tv.

You can use special recharger batteries.or you can use a socket.

No text will be available on the pocket tv.

The makers of the box are NOKIA and SHARP

I dont know if this official-it sounds convincing-do you know more information?

The plastic card is supposed to act in the same way as a smartcard....

If this is true would you buy one?

I would not waste my time giving out information I knew what was not going to happen!-There is a chance of this happening.
    All I was saying was
    a)Is this true?
b)If so would you buy one?

I'll have a go at answering your questions.
    a) Don't really know. But I do remember seeing in some magazines as prizes (you call the premium rate number) a while ago some pocket TVs with ONdigital's logo on.
    b) I wouldn't pay £200 plus subscription! £100 maybe but with no subscription. Sorry but I have had a pocket tv and it is a novelty (even Sonys are only £100) and watching a film etc on BBC ONE is very hard. Depends on the size of the screen but remember people have said we will be watching tv on mobiles so what is the need of this?

hi i just checked nokias website i was partly wrong, the mediascreen is a dtt product (i was mixing it up with a similar thing i saw on a tv show a few weeks back) however it is being developed for the german market and is nothing to do with ondigital.

Its official, the ONdigital mini portable box is out there.Go onto the NOKIA website to find out more.
The box does not have the ONdigital logo on,but neither does the MEDIAMASTER on the site,(the normal ondigital box)
So it is comming soon,As the design, technology of the portable tv is out there,It should be out in the uk late this year or early next year.
It will offer internet acsess, email, and of course digital television.
So the information I did tell you was correct.
As I said if you dont belive me check yourself.

At the momment the portable digital tv has been bought into by a digital television company in germany,But soon will becomming to the ONdigital in the united kingdom.

Yes, but did you notice the size - 12" - hardly pocket sized, and probably a lot more than £200!!!

    I reckon around £500-£800
There is alot of technology that has been put into it.So in the long run it is worfit.

I think it will be far superior than the mobile phones they are bringing out!

    Also found out the following:

    1) This can hook in your car,so you can watch tv in your car.
    2) 12 inches,flat screen.
    3)For the full-lowdown go to:
    www.nokia.com/multimedia/mediascreen.html

    In reply:

a)Maybe - but I would want to see one in action first
b)I'd be happy with something similar to current rates, but the cheaper the better :)
    c)£300-£400
d)Probably, though I'd wait a bit for prices to drop
e)Based on what you said earlier, I'd be able to watch tv, access the internet and send/receive emails wherever I am , whenever I want.

I thought this topic needed revisiting because of the following things I was wondering if OnDigital still existed and there was a mobile service for it.

If the mobile service used either the DVB-H or the DVB-T2 lite standard, would any of those standards be able to support CI+ as part of the encryption technology, (assuming that the portable TV set being used could support CI+) or would would it have been likely that OnDigital would have gone down the Sky style route and have specific models of portable TV sets made with some proprietary technology for the encryption?

If some.knowledgeable person could give some insight into this theory, I would be most grateful. ^_^

OnDigital as a service or OnDigital as a legal entity?
