I love Dawn and she has always been so pretty but what would really worry me if I were her is that in 20 years or so time that weight could turn her into an invalid. I have seen it in my own family where the years of excess weight finally catch up with you and you become not only unable to climb stairs but to walk anywhere and you end up losing your independence and everything becomes a huge struggle.
Its one of the big incentives for me to never get more than a few pounds (okay a stone) over my best weight as it scared the bejesus out of me:eek:.
Alison Moyet has stated that she was motivated to lose weight because she didn't want to suffer the consequences of obesity in later life.

Sensible girl. Until I saw it in my own family I never gave the long term consequences any real thought (as I'm not obese) but the reality is it renders you incapable of normal everyday tasks and the strain on your heart, your blood pressure, your breathing it was a real wake up call about the true price of being very overweight and to see my family member go from the sort of vibrancy Dawn has to having a carer because she could no longer look after herself (and all due to her weight) was shocking.
She looked ill after she lost the weight, many people do. We're only here for a certain amount of time so stop worrying about weight and just enjoy life, I do. She could've been on the lighter life plan which is a fad anyways, I don't know anyone who's maintained their weight on this plan. Although Pauline Quirke said she used this plan, I suspect she actually had gastric instead.
Everyone I know who has done Lighter Life has lost a ton of weight then regained it all again afterwards. I don't know if this is what Dawn used, its more likely she ate less because she was depressed about the break up of her marriage to Lenny. Now she is happily married again she is putting it back on. Shame she has not found a way of maintaining her slimmer size as she looked much better then.
She's still nowhere near as big as she was at her biggest.
When are people going to realise, these fad diets only work while you're on them. I've lost 6 stone and it has taken me 4 years. But I have kept it off. Eat less, move more!!!!! It's a whole lifestyle change.
I've lost 5 stone over the last 6 years and in that time i have gone up and down, it is a massive and constant struggle.
Anyone that thinks being overweight is all about shoving food in your mouth is talking bowlocks. At one point i was playing competitive football twice a week, swimming 2km a week and walking 25 miles a week as well as being incredibly strict about what i ate and i was only loosing about 1lb a week.
Blows all that crap out the window where people were accusing her of having a gastric band.
How so? I know several people who have had gastric bands and even gastric bypass ops and they've regained the weight.
Also some people have to have gastric bands removed for health reasons. They don't suit everybody. The big black girl who used to be on morning TV - Alison somebody had one and had to have it removed, so did Anne Diamond the first time.
she has 2 stone to go and I expect she will lose it and keep it off. It's not a fad like drinking Slimfast but a proper eating plan for life and it works.

With the greatest of respect, everything written there is common sense, not rocket science and there is absolutely no need to buy any of her products. Eat sensibly and do exercise - the end.

She did not look ill. By any stretch of the imagination.
I am so fed up of all the people who go "eat less exercise , more- simples ! "
I'm a Health Improvement Specialist and I've met many women who go to the gym, and eat right , but due to their metabolism , thyroid problems and other health changes ie menopause etc, cannot shift the weight .They can do sit ups and use every piece of gym equipment - but the weight doesn't shift .
I have no idea if Dawn has any of the above problems but she is mid fifties and short to begin with.
Then there are all the emotional problems that make us eat , like unhappiness and low self esteem .It generally is NOT a lack of self discipline .

Not particularly relevant to DF, but my husband lost over 10 stone on Lighter Life and has kept it off for 8 years or so now. He does do a periodic "maintenance" session, but LL really does work for some people.

She didn't look ill I agree. She looked better than she'd looked for years. There were some awful pics of her prior to her weightloss where she looked morbidly obese and was using a walking stick.
Considering she said that she was losing weight for the sake of her daughter (who would need her around for a long time to come) that soon went out the window!

I don't deny at all that there may be factors outwith one's control that make people overweight. But for me, and most others out there, I ate too much and did little exercise. I was talking about people that try all these stupid diets where your calorie intake is drastically reduced then wonder why it goes back on when you go back to eating normally. These diets are not sustainable.

No, she's just there for AGT. Why? I don't know, was she asked to do the local version?

...but, all the same, Michael Ball's greatest fan!
It's really up to her, but it looks like she did put some effort a while ago - she could be really struggling with it.
