"Thinking man's crumpet".

The term 'thinking man's crumpet', and by extension "thinking woman's crumpet", is a to a certain extent tongue in cheek term for someone who is deemed attractive to the opposite sex because they combine marked intelligence with a decent measure of physical attractiveness.

The term was first used by humourist Frank Muir sometime in the 1960s to describe Joan Bakewell. Half a century later who in your opinion (of either sex) currently fits the bill?

    Daisy Goodwin.

Good luck with the thread OP, but what usually happens with threads on this topic is that after the first couple of pages the point is completely missed and we just get a list of glamour models and actresses. How soon before someone nominates Kelly Brook or Harry Styles? :D

My OH has a thing for her too.
Although it must be said his sole criterion for this particularly pash is that "she looks like a goer " :D

Ermm...Victoria Coren Mitchell springs to mind. There's also a historian on Frank Skinner's radio programme The Rest is....who is clearly very intelligent, funny and has a lovely voice. Don't know what she looks like, but I'm well deep and such things don't matter. ;-) Ah..she's called Kate Williams. Good programme.

Think Sue Perkins is funny, intelligent and really cute too. (ok, am not remotely deep.) Wonder if I'm in with a chance?

Man crushes include Richard Herring, Matt Smith (actor not footballer) and Bob Mortimer. I am not strange. :p I am Off Topic, though, I suspect!

Not to mention Susie Dent and Rachel Riley.

Countdown has certainly done the business in the arena of cultivating "thinking man's crumpet".

I'd love to be stuck in an Alice Roberts and Helen Czerski sandwich. And you could throw Victoria Coren (Mitchell) in for extra sauce. That David Mitchell is a very lucky man.

There's an old DS thread on this important subject here:
