The Saturdays - What Are You Waiting For.
I don't care weather they get hits or not anymore, for me that single was fun, catchy, uplifting and energetic.
Quite a few good songs have come out of 2014 imo. My favourites being 'Crying for No Reason' by Katy B (nearly a year old and i'm still not board of it!) and 'Right Now' by Mary J.
Also.. I know it's only just been released, but 'Uptown Funk' is totally and possibly one of the best songs i've heard in absolutely ages. And I'm somebody who normally can't stand Bruno Mars and always found Mark Ronson very overrated!!
As I said, loads of good songs came out this year, but i've found albums to be pretty disappointing to be honest.
Sia - Chandelier
Meghan Trainor - All About That Bass
Taylor Swift - Blank Space
Fifth Harmony - Sledgehammer
Iggy Azalea ft. Charli XCX - Fancy
Tinashe - 2 On
Mark Ronson & Bruno Mars - Uptown Funk
Nicki Minaj - Bed of Lies
Cheryl - I Don't Care
Ariana Grande ft. Iggy Azalea - Problem
Jessie J, Ariana Grande & Nicki Minaj - Bang Bang
Ella Henderson - Ghost
Beyoncé - 7/11
Beyoncé - Ring Off
Beyoncé - Standing on the Sun
Klingande's 'Jubel' is song of the year for me, I'm not a big fan of the deep house trend for being immensely inferior to the actually good deep house released 20-25 years earlier but that one's on another level. Heartstopping stuff.
These also stand out as being particularly awesome:
* Katy B - Crying For No Reason (a singer I've always admired making a surprise return with not only her best ever single, but, brilliantly, being rewarded by an even more surprise (and deserved) top 5 place for it)
* Sigma - Nobody To Love (just a fabulous bit of simple but uplifting pop-D&B, although the original Charlie Wilson-sampling bootleg mix is much better than the re-recorded one that got released as a single)
* Magic - Rude (this with 'Jubel' was the big summer anthem for me, basically a Police ripoff but one done really well and with more of a melody than most other stuff around)
* The Veronicas - You Ruin Me (an incredible ballad just sneaking in near the end of the year)
And a final quick mention for Uptown Funk, it's only just been released but I'm loving it already.
Clean Bandit feat. Jess Glynne - Rather Be
Ed Sheeran - Thinking Out Loud
Lillywood & The Prick - Prayer In C (Robin Schulz Radio Edit)
Ella Henderson - Ghost
Sia - Chandelier
