Well it was my favourite. Sepia titles rather than black and white. It was silly at times but had all the ingredients for a great soap.

Absolutely LOVED S&D. So bad it was brilliant :D Used to get my brother to set the video to record it for me every week and thoroughly enjoyed watching it again when CH5 re-aired it all some years back.

It was a great show. Campy and entertaining. However Number 96, The Box, and Prisoner were even better.

Belinda Giblin, S&Ds Alison Carr, had previously been in The Box... often wearing far fewer clothes.;-)

The Young Doctors and A Country Practice were better than Son's and Daughters.

    The Sullivans was the best.

Some good characters, decent stories, and lots of stars to spot, like Mel Gibson and Sam Neill.

You don't remember Bluey Hills ... played by that famous Australian actor Lucky Grills? I'm being serious.

I actually loved Boney - James Laurenson is a fabulous actor.

My favourite Australian soap has to be Home and Away (although I haven't watched it in years) I remember the good old days of Bobby, Adam, Steven, Lance, etc.

My favourite Australian TV program ever though - has to be the truly brilliant 'Spyforce' from the early 70's.

Young Ramsey was a vet....and Boney was a detective in the outback.

Bluey was played by Lucky Grills he was a private investigater I think?

Bluey was a 1976 police procedural made by Crawford Productions who specialised in police dramas (Crawfords made their first soap/serial, The Box, in 1974. They launched another serial, The Sullivans, in November 1976).

Bluey was different from traditional cop shows in that the lead character "Bluey" Hills was, to put it bluntly, a slob who ate too much, drank too much, and smoked too much. The story was that Bluey was such a loose cannon the police department set him up in his own area "Department B" and gave him the difficult investigations that other areas couldn't handle. (Just like UK series Department S though obviously with different character types.) Bluey wasn't a huge success and ended after 39 episodes. Bluey was in the early 1990s re-voiced as "Bargearse" - it is very funny and well worth looking up on youtube.

Blue Hills was an Australian radio soap opera.

I would rush home from school to catch it. I would keep a sharp eye on Fiona Thompson's teeth ... always wondered how they stayed put and didn't fly out across the set.

Loved the early spats with Pat the Rat and Boring Beryl.

Could not abide bloody Susan. A fully grown woman who everyone treated like a small child.

It certainly had the best theme music in any soap.

    Absolutely LOVED *Sons & Daughters as well as;

    *Prisoner Cell Block H
    *Richmond Hill
    *Return to Eden
    Heartbreak High
    Number 96
    Chances
    E Street
    *The Young Doctors
    The Sullivans
*80-90s Neighbours (although the ne is also good at the moment)
    80-90s Home and Away
    A Country Practice

The * are my favourite ones

I watched most of them, although I wish the UK had shown Carsons Law, Punishment (male PCBH), Cop Shop and The Restless Years.

I always wondered why restless years wasn't show in UK , it would have been a hit with the young.

Although it's going through a rough patch, H&A IMO is the greatest Aussie soap and no other Australian show has enjoyed the success it's had.
I also have fond memories of A Country Practice. When I was little, I remember my mum loved it.

Was Number 96 ever shown in the UK.

I don't recall it but it would have certainly brighten up my teenage TV viewing.

It was certainly my favourite - the first 3 years or so we're fantastic although it lost the plot a bit towards the end, when it spent several months seeming to try and become Neighbours with more comedy and everybody losing their money. Although people did get rich again so wer were back to "actually I now own Woombai" it never really got its Mojo back.

    Sorry, long time lurker reply!

Prisoner was the best soap that Australia has produced, genuinely scary at times with some realistic characters and some seriously over the top ones. Although I watch the rebooted Wentworth Danielle Cormack is no Val Lehman as the tenacious Bea Smith! The Young Doctors also used a lot of the cast members from Prisoner if i recall correctly (I was about 10 when it was on tv lol)

Special mention to Heartbreak High, who didn't love Sam and Rivers getting together (even though she'd be arrested now!)???
