incorrect.
Family package will NOT give you sky sports in HD.
Family package is/was Entertainment Extra+ which only give you HD for non movies/sports channels.
I think the poster's point was in order to get Sky Sports HD, you need to buy-through Entertainment Extra+ (now called Family). An Original or Variety customer can't get Sky Sports (or Sky Movies) in HD.
that's always been the case though, so nothing has changed apart from a marketing name.
of course as well as the "family" pack, you also need the sports pack, AND the additional premium HD pack on top of that.
The old Family Pack from years ago never included HD and now its the basic level for HD and Box Sets!
now they'll think they have Family but only have Variety
They could call the new bottom pack Basic which includes the Original pack's channels but with HD in line with them and charge £25 instead of £21.50.
This way when someone wants to upgrade they will get a new HD box, if they are still on an old SD only box.
Those on the Original or Variety packs at the time of the change would have to stay where they are unless they change though, unless they have a HD box and then Sky might just do what they did about 4 or 5 years ago and give customers on Original a free upgrade to basic!
That would put all people with a HD box on the HD swap for Entertainment channels, meaning that they could just permanently do that swap on HD boxes even for those without a TV Sub!
Kellogs will sue!
lol thats a good one!:D:D:D:D:D:D
Never mind the superficial change of name, let us have some choice to ditch the kids and music channels that I never watch!
I thought this wasn't allowed and that the minimum was Entertainment extra + (family) to get Sports in HD?
he probably has the legacy HD pack and his EE part had just changed to variety thats all

You get the same as you always got, it is just a name change, who said the packages had changed content?
I have been having problems with my Sky+HD boxes and have lost access to catch-up and box sets etc. which adds to my confusion, although my standard Sky+HD box (non-WiFi) appears to have had an EPG upgrade in the last couple of days and catch-up, box sets etc. all seem to have re-appeared. My Sky+HD 1TB box (I don't think its the 2TB WiFi version) still hasn't be updated and still doesn't show catch-up, box sets etc.
To add to my confusion, on its website Sky offers to upgrade me to their "Family package" from just £5 extra a month; if I have everything already why are they offering this?
no you would only save about £5 by downgrading from Variety to Original, I dont know where you get £10.50 from?
I am confusing it with the Family package but I would save £5.50 which I could maybe use for HD. Would that work? I dropped the film channels, which I never watched to save £8 when my broadband went from free to £7.50. I do resent paying for the children's channels and music channels which I hardly ever watch. I would miss the history channels though.
If you upgraded to family you would get Entertainment channels in HD, but you would still need the premium HD pack add on (£5.25 extra) to get your sports channels in HD.
It would be the only route to get the sports channels in HD though so I can see it costing you about £59.25 for Family (£32) + Sports (£22) + Premium HD (£5.25) and comparing that with what you have, Variety (£27) + Sport (£22) which is £49 together as Im sure you already know!
So for you it would be no different than adding the old HD pack at this point, unless you are content for just entertainment in HD.
