Even if it is true , 40 secs in a 25C degree heat is long enough to melt the cream which is not even set anyway even before it was put in the freezer plus we don't know on what temperature the freezer was on.
So sorry Sue your excuse doesn't stand...Diana was mean and callous....didn't bloody care!!!!>:(
Call be old fashioned but I can't understand why Diana couldn't have bellowed to Iain ... I've moved your pudding out of our freezer.

But if it wasn't set, then surely all Iain had to do was put it back in a freezer? I'll admit I don't know a great deal about making ice cream, but would 40 seconds in the heat ruin a pan of not-yet-set ice cream so that it couldn't be salvaged in any way?
Fair enough, Diana doesn't come across as an honourable person after this (although as I mentioned above, I blame the editors), but it was Iain's reaction and his failure to present anything for judging which did him in. Diana's part in it all was of little, if any, significance.
Ice-cream doesn't melt that much in 40 seconds even in very hot weather. His ice-cream was a disaster anyway and a grey Baked Alaska did not look appetising. He should have got a pass though.
Perhaps she was too tied up in what she was doing.
She shouldn't have moved his ice cream but the abuse she's getting for it on social media is absolutely disgusting.
Perhaps that's why people are sticking up for here but I'm in oblivion as I never go there. She's in a competition and was certainly thoughtless and uncaring. She got her own Alaska in the freezer.
I do feel sorry for Iain, however, if my memory serves me right didn't someone push their show stopper cake off the bench when icing it one year? They still brushed it off (literally) and still had something to present so I don't think Iain did himself any favours and could have salvaged something.
I did see a chest freezer as well but it seemed reserved for Luis' ice creams as the shapes didn't for in the normal ones maybe? Seems odd it was so empty especially if Martha is saying now they were tight on room.
Anyway............... Baked Alaska should be baked, not blow torched>:(. My mum always put hers in the oven so the meringue was hot and the ice cream still frozen, I was looking forward to that, but they all blow torched the things, the cheats:D
(
No it does not need to be baked at all if you use italian meringue: blow torching does the trick perfectly and with better results
Flipside for me can you imagine the fuss she would have made if that had been her ice cream. On a more basic level she had no right touching someone else's work its a competition even before tonight don't like her and wasn't keen on Jordan either.

In all fairness Diana put it on a hot bench as the oven was on as she baked her meringue. The ice cream seemed to have a bit of shape in the centre and was partially frozen, I think that time out the freezer just ruined it.

I suspect that's why the backlash she really didn't care
Oh dear...I've shedded a little tear for poor Iain. So unfair.
Looks like Diana is Ruby Tandoh in disguise!
ehhh? are you just looking for excitement in your life or something!. In no way did Ruby deliberately or mistakenly interfere with any other contestants baking last year. I suspect that the bitchfest over her by some viewers, made the BBC producers take little chance to by-pass what can be perceived as 'stroppy behavior by Lain (although he was somewhat pushed to it)
They also seem to have started giving them challenges that are impossible in the time in order to up the drama. Ruins it a bit because the show is meant to be about showing off peoples ability - not showing them up and making them look incompetent. I watched it because I liked seeing how good the results were,
Is it not often the case, as often happens in Masterchef too, that the contestants know how much time they have but want to impress and so make their plans too elaborate and try to fit too much in?
After all, Simple Norman never seems to be short of time.
Just watched on catch up and I don't really know what to think to be honest. Iain's ice cream was sort of half set, a bit like Chetna's, so even taking it out of the freezer for a couple of minutes would probably have melted it considering how warm it was on the day. Chetna clearly told Diana 'That's Iain's' when they were looking for space in the freezer so if she did remove it she should have told him that she was doing so as there wasn't room in that freezer so he needed to put it elsewhere.
I am guessing if she had told him she'd removed it he wouldn't have kicked off like he had and stormed out as he would have gone to pick it up and take it to another freezer right away. If she didn't tell him then she was definitely out of order for doing what she did but the blurred lines come in after this. She might well have apologised to Iain but they didn't show it and they could well have edited this to make it much worse that it was.
I mean Chetna had a disaster with her Baked Alaska as the ice cream totally melted but she stuck it back in the freezer then presented it. Had Iain kept his cool and explained the situation whilst presenting the sponge and meringue he might well have been okay but I can understand why he kicked off to be honest.
No need for the abuse the woman is getting on Facebook and Twitter though.
The big issue is that if Iain hadn't of noticed his ice cream missing then it could have been left out even longer. Diana made no action to find out who's it was or put it in a better place. She put it somewhere where it shouldn't have been.
However
The real issue was that Iain overreacted and I think if he had put forward what he did have and explained the situation then he may have been saved.

She said ' he should've used his OWN freezer anyway' did they have allocated freezers and if so why wasn't he using it. And there was a ton of space in the briefly spotted chest freezer
I like the scottish guy who does boring bakes
I fear his time will be up soon though
I don't really understand what exactly happened in Ice Cream Gate, it winds me up that the producers don't try to balance the edit but I guess the contestants sign themselves away for manipulation when they enter the show

Maybe Diana did, but it wasn't captured on camera, or it was left out in the edit.
Agreed. People get way too het up over a baking competition. If only we could tap into such passion for important things like general elections.
I'm not sure she did as didn't Iain ask who had left it out? If she had told him he would have known.

Jo Brand will get to the bottom of it. I'm looking forward to it.

And add Richard, for the Win....star baker twice now.
Most of the Saucy Puds looked good, as was the Tiramisu - it was when they cut into them it went wrong, a bit....for some of them
As for Iain and his Melt Down: I'd say the Custardgate from last year was worst.
Ahh fair enough, I must have missed that.
