Seems that despite pressure from the IOC the Saudi Olympic committee are holding firm and won't be sending any women athletes to London 2012.

Discriminations on the grounds of race would never be acceptable & rightly so. Indeed South Africa were banned from the games for 40 years. Surely it's now time to ban Saudi Arablia if they persist with this discrimination?

But they need to think ahead to future games and insist the Saudis play by the rules. And yes, it means changing Saudi society just as South Africa had to change theirs.
The problem is that women in Saudi Arabia have no incentive to take up sports professionally as they cannot take part in the Olympic Games. If Saudi Arabia allowed women to compete I suspect more women would start taking part and more would achieve the qualification standard.
Even if they haven't they are still entitled to enter some competitors. This is why you get African swimmers, Samoan shot putters in the 100 metres etc.
