Blackadder was brilliant....apart from the first series, which was poo. But was it really funnier than Fawlty Towers, Father Ted, Only Fools, Frazier, Curb,One foot in the grave, The Office, Porridge, Steptoe and Son......etc?
Talking about sitcoms not ageing well I used to love in the late 70s Citizen Smith. I saw a repeat recently and found it cringingly unfunny. Funny how comedy tastes change.
BTW Dads Army is shockingly under mentioned in this thread but for me it is the most timeless comedy series of all.
I used to be in absolute hysterics at Bread in the late 80s. No idea why now.
Clarence with Ronnie Barker the same.
Staggered no mentions of Police Squad yet given how Airplane still wins every film poll.
The Golden Girls
Rhoda
Maggie & Her
George & Mildred
Sorry
Interesting list, Phil, as not a lot of people will remember Sorry or Rhoda now.
Another of my five favourites and one in the list that is little remembered now:
Rising Damp
On The Buses
Police Squad
The Kit Curran Radio Show
Hancock's Half Hour
Monty Python (three pages so far and I think that's the first mention)
Red Dwarf
Curb Your Enthusiasm
Dad's Army
The Office
Yes, people are going for 'sitcoms' when it could include other types of comedy shows like Monty Python. I'd add Whose Line Is It Anyway and Absolutely to the list. I loved them in the 80's/90's and seeing them now they still make me laugh
The Day Today, Brass Eye, Nathan Barley and a rather strange one called Jam.

Can watch all these shows again and again and often do, as there's little on TV I like these days.
