I saw this yesterday and really don't know what to make of it. It's directed by Francois Ozon, who gave us the marvellous Dans la Maison earlier this year. Marine Vacth plays Isabelle, a teenager from a wealthy bourgeois family, who turns to prostitution after losing her virginity whilst on holiday.

Many critics have complained that it's never explained exactly why she turns to prostitution but this doesn't actually matter. Marine Vacth is stunning beautiful and has great screen presence. You get the feeling that she is withdrawn from the world so maybe the prostitution is an attempt to connect with the world.

Charlotte Rampling turns up at the end in a striking cameo but not much actually happens in the film at all. It's very well acted and directed and compelling to watch but I can't decide whether it's very good or just stylish, pretentious drivel of the kind that only French cinema can pull off.

Anyone else seen it?
