Can't find much about this to give a link but his Godson has announced on Twitter that he died early this morning in California aged 67. So far it doesn't appear to have made any of the entertainment websites or even IMDB but is very sad news.

That is really sad news. I saw him a couple of times in plays, a very underrated actor.

    Wow, that's terrible.

He was so fit when he was younger.

Sad. A good TV role model gone. :(

If true I'm going to drive my car into a load of cardboard boxes in tribute.

When I said, 'fit', I meant physically fit.

Thanks for posting - I am surprised the BBC has not picked up on it.

    A bloody good actor.

I will be watching the last 20 minutes of "Who Dares Wins" in honour of Lewis Collins. I imagine that would be him storming into the Afterlife.

Apparently he'd been suffering from cancer for several years. Had no idea he was ill. Like others have said, seemed the epitome of good health. Hits home just how short and transient life is.

Daily Mail ran this lazy and unnecessary 'story' (?) earlier this year without bothering to find out the real reason for Collins' appearance.

    RIP Lewis.

Not sure we'll hear a tribute from Martin Shaw though, as didn't they have a bit of a falling out? Also, I believe Shaw blocked repeat showings of The Professionals.

This is very, very sad news. Bodie was fabulous. I was watching The Professionals only last night. I hadn't known he was unwell.

It's such a shame we didn't see more of him in later years.

RIP Lewis and many condolences to his family.

They have now, and it's also on their front page.

Some real corkers of comments in there, at least they've been red arrowed.

"Wants to watch it as he could get mistaken for Gary Glitter. Suggest a bit of a facelift and contact lens implants to get rid of those long sight glasses."

"50 years ago was quite good looking - but now ugh !!!"

Some DM readers surely swallow everything it tells them.

Repeats are regularly shown on ITV4, so Shaw must've had a change of heart.

I think Shaw only blocked them whilst he was going through a phase of thinking himself as a serious thespian.

    Indeed.

I think Martin finally relented in the 1990s after he heard that Gordon Jackson's widow was struggling financially, thus would receive royalties from the repeats.

Its one of my favourite films, especially when they break into his house to save his wife and daughter. Classic!!!
