I don't think she's a bad actress at all. She's a bit camp, but the character of Janine IS camp.
Charlie's other roles, in which she plays totally different characters to Janine, left me impressed with her acting ability. There was no OTT panto villain type acting. So I think that's just the way she portrays Janine - which works, IMO.
I've always thought Charlie was a very good actress although at times she has played Janine quite like a Panto villain. But recently she's played her fantastically. Janine's been brilliant over the last few weeks.
Maybe Charlie's voice is like that as she's probably been filming a lot of scenes and emotional one's too, it might be having an affect on her throat?
I love her voice - it's always breaking mid-sentence! I don't know if it's smoking or what. If it was she'd have to be on a hell of a lot a day for it to be affecting her like that so maybe it's just some natural thing that's happened to her voice as she's got older.
Its a gr8 sexy voice! Shes a sexy actress! When she left the first time, she did quite a variety of work, including Bleak House. Shes one of the few actresses that has x2 voices on EE: common Janine, & posh Janine (for business!), I think Dot's the only other one! (Launderette voice vrs church voice!);)

I agree OP, since coming back she seems to of had a constant case of laryngitis.
She's a tad theatre school but there are far worse.

I think he's a great actress.
Okay so she plays Janine rather OTT but I wouldn't have Janine any other way.

The last time I heard her speak - the Live episode - she sounded 'normal' to me.
I just watched 'Unforgettable Mike Read' today and she was on that and she sounded so hoarse I assumed she had a sore throat!
