A rather strange view, staff research is important in terms of the work that students can get involved in, including funding and equipment. I considered several unis when it came to my PhD, but I went where the research was solid, well circulated, peer established and most credible.
If your just talking undergrad, head to student rooms, there is usually a lot first-hand accounts from current and recent graduates.
I'm also sure, a quick Google search will give you student satisfaction survey results.
