Interesting article on DS regarding tweets Alec Baldwin made in which an LGBT rights group accused him of being homophobic. Alec Baldwin has since applogised. But were his comments homophobic or were the LGBT rights group clutching at straws to get attention?

Thanks - sorted!
I'd be inclined to accept his explanation as valid.
I don't think he was being intentionally homophobic
Good point there on the intentionally; I agree.
I can see how the use of the word queen has transcended the gay stereotype (where it certainly started) to denote that type of behaviour regardless of orientation.
I have never seen any other reason to think that Alec Baldwin is homophobic so I am inclined to give him the benefit of the doubt myself.
I agree.
If what he is saying is true and his wife was not using her phone during the funeral (and honestly would anyone be stupid enough to tweet while at a funeral - it would be bound to be picked up) then he obviously just got very angry at this insinuation. And I don't blame him.
That Mail article was vicious.
Really?
I just read it as him having a massive problem with that journalist which, to be honest, I would too if I was accused of disrespect at someone's funeral. And lashing out accordingly.
I see nothing which tells me he is homophobic.
Certain groups like GLAAD like to throw words around in order to get attention. I doubt they really do much for gay rights.
And I can't seem to see a poll.
So for me, it's a bit 'meh'. A guy accuses a woman of doing something bad at a funeral. Womans husband kicks off in defence. End of.
I can't defend the language he used at all. But using it through anger in defence of his wife when he's just lost someone... I'm willing to give him another chance before I choose to believe he is a homophobic person. We've all said stupid things in anger that may not reflect our true general beliefs.
But the guy in question is gay right?
Assuming so, bringing his sexuality into the argument (with the ass comment clearly does) is homophobic as would calling him a n-word would be if he was black.
It's possible to insult people who you don't like while leaving slurs out of it.
