June is a very busy month. Remember if you're booking the ferry back to Aberdeen, if you want a cabin or a sleeping pod to book early. Doesn't really get dark in June either so it's good if you're doing day walks etc
The month is up for negotiation, how is it in Autumn weather wise?
Western Skye is getting a good reputation as a place to see auroras in the UK (= more tourist £££s too!) and perhaps it's about time that Britain's Northern Isles started doing some marketing in that respect too. Certainly Iceland and Norway are both already benefiting from northern lights tourism.

Not bad. The worst of the weather is generally from now til March. I think last autumn was just a bit wet.
I can also confirm there are some trees in Shetland, you just need to go hunting for them.

Yes, they were out last night. Too bloody cold to hang about though.
They say that about Aberdeen but I have never seen them.
Excellent news and we can see some pics here: https://www.google.co.uk/search?q=orkney+aurora+borealis&source=lnms&tbm=isch&sa=X&ei=yK3PVKzQIIyN7Abw9YAo&ved=0CAgQ_AUoAQ&biw=1024&bih=647
