Charles Dickens and Alexandre Dumas, but going on recent reading habits I'd have to add J.R. Ward, Patricia Briggs, Kresley Cole, Seanan McGuire, and Karen Marie Moning.

My favourite authors, which I've read a fair few books of:

    Daphne Du Maurier
    D.H Lawrence
    E.M Forster
    The Bronte sisters

Also finished reading Tipping the Velvet by Sarah Waters and it was one of the most enjoyable books I've read in a while, and so I'm looking to read more, so she likely will be one of my overal favourites.

Too many to count over the years. So far as new books are concerned,

I think that Neil Gaiman is my current favourite.

I'm impressed by Margaret Atwood, David MItchell and William Nicholson and want to read more of their books.

    I like
Susan Hill for her Simon Serailler series.
Peter Lovesey for his Peter Diamond series.
Ben Aaronovitch for his Peter Grant series.
Phil Rickman's Merrily Watkins series is looking promising, I've only read one so far, I thought it was excellent.
