Nannying bollocks.

We should be providing the best information we can and allowing people to make up their own minds AND live with the consequences of their choice.

We should just ban any product or activity that is potentially harmful, or tasty, or fun and be done with it. :D:D

    That's probably the ultimate goal.

This is just ridiculous, either ban tobacco or don't but this will mean in years to come a man aged say 85 born in December 2000 will be able to buy a pack of **** and another one born a month later in Jan 2001 also aged 85 will not be able to, this means they also want ID cards brought in otherwise how will they be able to police such a law.

The BMA is also not supported on this by most normal Docs.

And when will they stop demonising tobacco alone for every illness, yes it is unhealthy we all know that, but they spend all their time on tobacco and ignore the fact that smoking has declined massively over the past 30 years but asthma and cancer are increasing , when will they stop pussyfooting around and call for household cleaning chemicals to be changed and diesel fumes, two of the biggest causes of asthma and lung complaints aside from smoking.

And if this should become law how long before alcohol and fatty foods follow ?

Absolutely, and as we have seen over the last few months, alcohol and fatty foods (as well as sugar) are already on their radar.

They were talking about this on Radio Merseyside this morning the DJ Tony Snell was talking to the doctor who thought this up. Tony asked what do you do if you see a teenager smoking??? The docs reply and this was priceless....well you go up to them and ask them to stop smoking :o:o:o So when you wake up with a crowd around you know will know you were only doing your civic duty lol.

Tony said your joking??? The doc said no Ive spoken to a lot of teenagers lol.
Im not a smoker never have been but I dont bang on to anyone about the effects of smoking on you. If you dont know by now that ciggarettes are bad for you then you will never know.

But if you're born in 2000 or after you can't buy them anyway because you're at oldest 14.

I can't imagine it actually happening but whatever.

    Ridiculous and unworkable.

Too much control as it is.

I can't see it getting through the house of commons, the government make too much money from tobacco.

The idea of this is a permanent ban for anyone born after 2000

Indeed. It is clear that whoever came up with the idea did not think it through. Also it is worth noting that numbers of smokers in that age group are going down, so we are naturally seeing a decrease in young people smoking anyway.
Among pupils aged 11 to 15, in England, in 2012, 23 per cent of pupils had tried smoking at least once. This is lower than in 2011 (25 per cent), and continues the decline in the proportion of pupils who have smoked since 1996 when it was 49 per cent.

Agreed, it is an utterly stupid idea that is completely unworkable as well as being a massive government overreach.

Interesting sentiment but how are we going to afford the bill when the entire population lives to a ripe old age? Pension payments will go through the floor or a lot of extra money is going to have to be created from thin air. Without all that unhealthy stuff that we like, civilisation will collapse unless we get a lucky break and it only stops for a moment to catch its breath because it's not as young as it used to be...

Extra fries with mine please! I'll pass on the cappucino though.
