Horrified at embarrassing health condition

Some people may not wish to read on but I feel I need to share this and I'll only do it anonymously. So my bum has been bothering me quite a bit lately. I've had issues with itching for quite some time, thought it was probably haemorroids or something. Last week or two I haven't felt great after bowel movements, mainly the sense of not feeling empty. My bum was itching just now, so I thought I'd have a poke around in there. Don't ask why but I stuck a screwdriver up there. No very far mind. I pulled it out and what do I find stuck to it but a tiny worm! About half a centimetre long and white. It was definitely alive because when I prodded it, it moved. I feel horrible, really horrible and frankly dirty. The trouble is I've had problems with anal itching for years, god I hope I haven't had worms all this time. I'd assumed it was something else.

I just feel revolting right now.

    You got well screwed then!

On a more serious note, what was wrong with sticking a clean finger or two up there.

Yeh, I mean even a shaped bar of soap or something, but why go to the screwdriver first?

OK here's what you should of done instead of posting on this place, whatever this place is. Go to GP, explain issue to doctor, doctor prescribes medicine, problem goes away.

    Thank me later.

At least he never shoved a (power) tool up there to check on proceedings.

Probably threadworms :( You must have somehow been contaminated

Go to the GP as soon as possible for anti-parasite medication :)

Don't go to Pets At Home for worming tablets for yourself, but if you have a pet that could be the source then you'll need to treat it too

Ok, now you feel revolting, move on from it.

First off the digestive system and especially the bowels and lower gut contain all sorts of bacteria, parasites and all sorts of things every single person has it, so you aren't a freak.

You just have a some parasites, it's no big deal.

Secondly, a screw driver while not perfect, I can see the logic in as it's very small and considering the width of what comes out of the bum usually, a screwdriver, although pointy is not gonna do any damage if it's in there a short period of time so good idea. And NOW you know what it is, you can clear it up.

Parasites can be killed and released out of the body. I get that this is an embarrassing problem so if you are really afraid to go to the doctor then I would say google it and look for something you can do to detox it out. There will be loads of websites and people who can help you, I've cleared up loads of things by getting advice on websites and fully recovered. I haven't had worms so I wouldn't know what to suggest but finding things that are anti-bacterial and anti-fungal to take on a regular basis will definitely help eliminate things like this.

It doesn't matter if you've had this issue for years, if you kill off whats there and get control over it, it will clear up. Considering what happened, you can't just do nothing as they need to be out of your system, they won't just pack up and find a new home. I don't even know if they are dangerous but I wouldn't think doing nothing because you feel embarrassed or revolting is worth it, just sort it out and you can probably do it on your own in private!

Sod that. Get down the vets, Mickster, and report back. Ta :)

Note: Take screwdriver along for demonstration purposes.

Please don't treat yourself. Some parasitic gut infections can be serious. Your GP will prescribe the proper eradication treatment.

Also don't dispose of the worm(s) - put in a small clear specimen container so that your GP can send it to the lab for identification :)

Wow! Once identified, do they tag them and set them free in the wild again? :D

Did you wash the screwdriver afterwards? :o

It's not a good idea to shove sharp metal objects up your bum. A perforated rectum is infinitely more serious than a simple case of worms.

Go to a walk-in centre this morning, don't be embarrassed, they'll have heard it all before.

If you're prone to shoving screwdrivers up your rectum, then a worm is going to be the least of your worries.

Was it a flat head or a Philips? The screwdriver, not the worm.

Anal itching is quite normal if you've had a big tool up your arse.
