Surely Jazz FM would make better use of Digital 1 slot than say Magic, Traffic Radioand Absolute Radio Extra that broadcasts the same as AR90s for most of the week. To make DAB attractive to new people they need to offer something different and a relay of a London station (Magic) is aurely a waste.

Absolute Radio Extra & AR90s are two labels pointing at the same 64kbps capacity on Digital 1, there is no duplication involved. On Saturday afternoon the 64kbps is used by ARX, the rest of the week it's used by AR90s.

Neither Magic nor Traffic Radio are on Digital 1.

Coulden't agree more. You see the problem with DAB is all the stations seem to be very similar. for example there is a large block of "middle of the road" music stations, these are the like of Magic, Smooth, Heart, (to some extent) BBC Radio 2 etc. From the perspective of music stations there is no station that is radically deifferant from the norm, and altrough Jazz FM does get criticsed every now and then for leaning towards "middle of the road" jazz output, it would definately be a refreshing change

128kbps AAC+ stream available at http://listen.onmyradio.net:8050 according to http://www.jazzfm.com/about/ - not sure I can tell the difference between that and the 64kbps. Might be wrong...

Does anyone know the stream addresses for any of the JazzFM 'listen again' streams? Annoyingly, the old stream addresses no longer work, which means that I can't get them on either of my Pure Flow radios. As an example, the old 'funky sensations' replay stream used to be on http://www.jazzfm.com/listen/streams/funkparty.asx but now seems to be embedded flash.

    Radio Feeds have these

    64kbps WMA: http://wm-tlrc.london.as34763.net/jazz1

    64kbps mp3: http://listen.onmyradio.net:8000/listen.pls

    96kbps mp3: http://listen.onmyradio.net:8002/listen.pls

    128kbps mp3: http://listen.onmyradio.net:8050/listen.pls

There's some advice on listening to various internet radios/other devices too, though not the Pure Evoke Flow:

    Mike,

Thanks for the reply, but it's not the live streams I have a problem with, but the Jazz FM 'listen again' or replay streams. These used to be accessible directly from the server but since the website revamp can now only be accessed/played on a PC using the embedded Flash player.

My cludge solution at the moment is to use 'Replay Media Catcher 4' to record the stream to my DNLA server and then access it via the Media Player within the Flow radio. That works fine but is a PITA as I have to effectively play the whole stream for Media Catcher to be able to record & convert it and it not only takes time, but also resources on the PC and my DNLA server.

What I'm after is the source stream so I can poke this directly into the Flow radio via TheLounge and thereby skipping the 'record to PC/Convert to DLNA server' step.

    Rotty,

Glad I've at last found someone else with exactly the same problem as me!

Since the Jazz FM website changed I've exchanged a few e-mails with Richard Wheatley at Jazz FM and one of their engineers, both of whom have been very helpful.

They have designed some new stream addresses, separate from the website interface, for me to test out, for example:

    rtsp://listen.onmyradio.net:1935/JAZZFM/MP4:jazzfm_funkparty.m4a

    for Funky Sensation.

The Jazz FM engineer managed to get the streams working on his Reciva radio satisfactorily.

However, I can't get these to work on my Flow Radios. The Lounge accepts them as valid URLs when added as new Custom Stations, but they won't stream on the radios (they stick on "Buffering ...0%"). And within The Lounge itself the streams keep "recommunicating" every couple of seconds. (But the streams work OK if played directly from Real Player, so it's not a problem on the Jazz FM side).

I've forwarded all the new links to Pure Support to try out - but as yet no response. Frustratingly this is the third Support Call I've raised on this subject to Pure and it seems this is the third time it's been ignored!

Try out the link above and let me know how you get on.

I too would like to listen to Jazz FM Audio On Demand using my Logitech Transporter Network Music Player. But it will not play Flash Embedded streams or Real Player audio. It will only play WAV, AIFF, MP3, WMA and FLAC.

I have e-mailed Jazz FM so hopefully I will get a reply. If you hear anymore, can you please pass on the details here.

Yep, same here on both my Sensia (just sits at 'Now Tuning') and the Oasis Flow (buffering 0%)

At least you managed to get someone at Jazz FM to take note of your request ... I haven't had a reply from them for the three emails I've sent in.

I will send in two support requests to PURE, one for each of the Sensia and Oasis Flow radio's. I have to say that I haven't found PURE to be particularly interested in any of the customer reported bugs as I have sent in a few for both radio's and to date none of the issues have been addressed in any of their updates

If you want to PM me with the other stream addresses, I can add these into the support ticket with PURE as it might give it some more impact if it isn't just one stream.

Edit: just looked on the PURE FAQ site and they quote this for supported file formats,,,,
    MPEG: 8kbps - 320kbps (this includes MPEG-1-Layer -III, MPEG-2Layer-III and MPEG2.5-Layer-III)

    WMA: 64kbps - 385kbps (WMA4, WMA7, WMA8 and WMA9, including support for VBR & CBR)

    Cook (Real Audio): 8kbps - 96.3kbps

    AAC-LC: 16kbps - 320kbps (M4A but not M4P) - media streaming only.

Please note that PURE internet radios do not currently support AAC+ codecs. Some AAC M4A files use the AAC codec and some use the AAC+ codec, so be sure you're running the correct codec for your radio.

Any chance you can verify which codec JazzFM are using for their m4A stream?

    Henry,

While I'm not PURE Support, I am currently working with PURE on their internet radio portal (though probably not authorised to speak here on their behalf).

If you'd drop me a full list of new station streams at the email below (no PMs please), I'll get those added to the PURE Lounge as soon as I can, assuming they're in a compatible format for PURE Flow connected radios.

Broadcasters can use editorial@thelounge.com to give PURE any amendments and additions to the directory: and that goes for podcasts as well as live streams.

    Hope that helps,

    //j

James Cridland and the man from Jazz FM's web streaming service provider are on the case and are kindly copying me in on all e-mails between them to resolve this.

I'll post up here as soon as they have got the streams up and running and tagged on PURE's The Lounge.

    Hello.

I'm the "one of the engineers at Jazz FM" and just wanted to drop in a, hopefully, helpful thing.

First - one user is rightly annoyed they haven't received a response to "3 emails". Please forward me the emails and I will look at them for you. I guess you can PM me here?

I can confirm the codec in use is MPEG-4 AAC LC with a variable bit rate. In fact, it's Nero's - http://www.nero.com/enu/technologies-aac-codec.html if you want to be absolutely specific!

We took the decision to migrate from Windows Media as part of the website revamp as the MPEG-4 audio, on both the live stream and AOD content, is clearly superior at lower bit rates.

As one user says, we are working with PURE on a solution to this and will happily work with any other manufacturer or provider to get the content to as many listeners who would like it as possible.

Do contact me directly either via the contact pages at www.jazzfm.com or via DM here if you would like any further information.

    Regards

    Ken

Hello Ken, thanks for the reply. The emails were sent using the responder form on the Jazz FM website so I don't have a copy. Never did get a response though, so perhaps they are disappearing into a black hole.

However, I wondered if there was any news on the progess of the Pure Flow/Jazz FM Listen Again issues?

Cool - if you need it 'beta tested' when you get a fix, let me know ;) Can do the Sensia and Oasis Flow (and perhaps a Siesta Flow soon).

James at PURE and Ken at Jazz FM (above) have been in touch with me regularly over the course of the last few weeks.

I understand that they are working together towards a solution which they hope to provide following the next PURE Flow firmware upgrade (although no date has been set for this yet). Some technical changes on both sides are required in order to achieve this, hence the need for the upgrade.

    Hello

Here's the text of an email I sent to "henrykelly" earlier today regarding this issue which I hope is of some help.

    ---

As you know I've been working with the guys at PURE on a resolution to the provision of AOD content on their devices.

They've been exceedingly helpful in their discussions with us over this. The basic issue comes down to a very boring issue with the way our particular media server advertises its "clock rate" to client devices. It's effectively technically breaking the letter of the law on RTSP streaming and is probably why Reciva devices report the bitrate as 0kbps even though they play the audio.

As there is no easy way to resolve this within our media server platform, PURE have kindly agreed to remove this restriction in their firmware and make this available as part of the next firmware release. They don't have a firm date for this at present but they are working towards getting it available as soon as they can. Understandably, there are other considerations on the release which they need to address.

Alongside this, we have agreed to provide MP3 audio on the server - it's possible the firmware update will be able to handle AAC audio through the RTP payload but other considerations may prevent this from happening.

Whichever way, we should be in a position to make Jazz FM's AOD content available on PURE devices at the point of release of their next firmware update. We're staying in touch in the meantime.

Sorry that it's not an immediate fix - these problems are often mired in finicky detail which prevents a straightforward solution.

In the meantime, do stay in touch if you need any further information.

    ---

    Regards

    Ken

Are Jazz FM talking to Pure about adding the AOD streams onto 'The Lounge' Listen Again tab? That would be really good, particularly as all that is available there are BBC progs which seems a bit restrictive. Failing that, Jazz FM need to publish the stream addresses for the AOD progs when they become available, as they aren't particularly easy to derive from the PC based widget.

Looking forward to the update which hopefully won't be too long

    Yes, that's the plan.

Further, the following information was supposed to be published on the Jazz FM website but it looks like it's not there at the moment. I'll publish it here if that's ok - feel free to share. Direct RTSP and iOS links for most current AOD content for Jazz FM. Reciva radios, by the way, appear to play the content ok using these links.

We have now made Jazz FM's AOD content available to devices supporting the RTSP protocol (such as Quicktime or VLC Player) and Apple iOS via Cupertino streaming in Safari.
