Other sources claim that Jazz FM will replace Real Digital next Monday, but as Matt said, the new TLRC presenter led service launches on Oct 6th.

According to two articles Jazz FM will also launch in Eastern Scotland and South Wales. One article says:
Jazz FM will go live on 6 October on DAB in London, the North West, the West Midlands and Glasgow, as well as parts of eastern Scotland and south Wales.
Does this mean that Jazz FM will go on more multiplexes than planned?

Probably on Rock Radio's slot in Edinburgh and Smooth Radio London on MXR Wales and West.

Replacing The Arrow I would have thought.

Jazz FM could also possibly take the "Galaxy Yorkshire" slot on the Central Scotland multiplex, with the rebranding of XFM Scotland to Galaxy Scotland.

Typically though, no coverage in Yorkshire* and the North Midlands where jazzfm.com was replaced by Yorkshire Radio. So, if you live in the likes of Leeds, Bradford, Sheffield, Hull etc, you're out of luck on DAB.

*West Yorkshire alone has more people than the Greater Glasgow area where jazzfm.com is still broadcasting

Or 96.3 Rock Radio could move to the Central Scotland mux.

Or the East Midlands, East Anglia, South, South West, North East, north Scotland, north and mid wales, Northern ireland etc etc etc...

What I am trying to get at is that the original plans for Jazz FM's relaunch was to target the largest conurbations instead of going national on Digital One - ie London, the West Midlands and the North West. West Yorkshire according to the link I quoted is the fourth biggest conurbation in the UK, and the MXR Yorkshire coverage area also covers South Yorkshire (Sheffield is 9th) and Hull (24th). So why are smaller areas now getting Jazz FM on DAB whilst Yorkshire and the North Midlands doesn't (and if The Arrow is leaving DAB or being sold, there's 128Kbps space on MXR Yorkshire)?

As previously stated we lost Jazz FM on DAB to make space for Yorkshire Radio. Take Yorkshire Radio off DAB, to me it is a complete waste of space and put "Jazz FM" back where it was before. :)

This is strange...or am i missing something here?

If Jazz FM are going in place of Real Radio...then why does D1 Test B state 'Jazz Music' ?

Nothing to do with D1. theJazz is why it says Jazz Music, its replacing Real on the local/regional muxs.

Is this latest reference to south Wales genuine, or are these articles repeating the original Radio Today article which was later revealed to be erroneous?

Note the reference to "parts of south Wales" which would imply the local Cardiff/Newport or Swansea muxes, rather than the regional Severn Estuary mux. Had that been the case, surely these articles would have mentioned the west country or Bristol too.

well there is space on Cardiff/Newport so maybe they got hold of some of the capacity on it?

think the Swansea mux is full!

even so, one would expect a trailer loop coming up on the sky digital epg position something like a month before the early October launch date. Wonder if they will make it? And wonder if the sky epg slot will be 0167 which used to be jazz fm's slot and which has remained unoccupied since it vanished

I think the rule is Sky have to offer the last numbers in the EPG rather than unused vacated slots to be fair to other stations. NME brought thiers from WRN.
They may have even won the bid for "theJazz" Sky epg slot (which is a better number) when it went up for sale a while back!

Shrewd move - last working with you, I guess, CJ, on Palm 105.5 - glad she hasn't decided to call radio a day.

It'll be interesting to see what line-up TLRC conjure for Jazz - are they planning on going mainstream in terms of the presenters they're employing for daytime output or will it be specialists all the way? Will Helen Mayhew be enticed back from Global by a non-graveyard shift? You've also got to wonder how big the budget is...how much money will GMG throw at it this time round?

Hi CJ. Good to hear from you again!!!!

Is there any chance of you appearing on Jazz FM? I'd love to hear your wonderful voice on the radio again.

If I remember correctly did you not do a weeks cover on the mid-morning show on Jazz FM many many years ago? I remember tuning into Jazz FM one morning while driving around London and was very pleasently surprised to hear your voice!!!! Must be at least 10 years ago?

    All the best CJ.

I don't think GMG are putting any money into it , I may be wrong but I thought the name/Logo etc is being leased to TLRC so if anything TLRC will be paying GMG.I'm sure GMG will have nothing to do with the input .
