Can anybody help with this?
I had to buy a new computer as the old one was dying. The new computer has Windows 8 which I HATE  But stuck with it now.
Anyway, the main problem that I have at the moment is no address book or contacts in Outlook. Am I missing something?
Grateful for any advice.
Thank you

I used the Mail app on the start screen (is that what people are referring to as Metro ?...........the one with all the apps on it)
Well............that looked pretty strange to me, it had my e-mail folders, but no contacts, and the latest e-mail received was displayed over half the screen
It just looked totally alien and like all those Apps I've looked at it seemed difficult to close and/or navigate away from
So I went onto the internet, found Outlook, signed in and pinned it to my desktop
Now I don't need t use that horrible 'Mail' App
I just want normal Microsoft Outlook
In that case I think you have to ignore all the Apps, go in to Desktop, get on the internet and find the Outlook site, and pin it to the taskbar or put a short cut on your desktop so you can get in without using any of the Apps
It does seem that the first few days of using Windows 8 are like an assault course in how you can get around having to use the start screen and the apps
Thank you for your advice but I'm not sure which Outlook site I should use.
well, I just searched on google for 'Outlook e-mail sign in'
once you get to a sign in page you can sign in with your username and password then you're in to your own e-mail page and that's the page I pinned to my favourites bar.............or you could pin it to the task bar, add a short cut on the desk top............make it your home page etc............
Then you can always go straight to your normal e-mail page
Thank you for all the advice. Still no Outlook. But need to talk to Dell on Monday about Printer not connecting , no start button, and how to remove all the annoying apps. So I'll talk to them about this as well.
You can download something like Classic Shell to get the start button back.
So you printed the addresses you wanted to keep .....
How exactly did you think the addresses would jump from the offline email application on your old computer to any email application on the new computer, if you made no attempt to export/transfer them?
I didn't expect them to transfer. That's why I printed them as a record. I thought that I would be able to add them gradually, as I use them, to the new Outlook account.
There is an app called People. I could maybe add them to that but I don't have access as it asking me for a domain and server address which I don't have. But I'll speak to Dell.
Unfortunately the Home and Student versions of MS Office haven't included Outlook for many years. I think the last one that had it included was Office 2003.

Thank you. I'll look at it.
And thank you to all others who have offered advice.
I'm not really all that up-to-date on IT. Bit clueless at times. I had Windows XP on my old computer and I have always used Outlook at work and at home so it's what I'm familiar with.
Maybe I need to move with the times!
