Just wondering if anyone knew of any gay novels from the 1950s written by british authors? I have discovered a number of american ones, but am struggling to find many from Britain.
Thanks in advance!

At least I think it was published in the 50's.
Thanks for these I've taken a quick look now, they look great, I'll certainly get round to reading them at some point!
That is 1950s, I have that on my 'to read shelf.'
James Baldwin is America, but definitely a good shout. From what I can gather Britain at the time was a lot more closeted and indirect in dealing with homosexuality, whereas in America some of the smaller presses were publishing more explicit material even if it ended unhappily!
I love that book, it wasn't published until 1972 I believe after he died. I think he wrote a short story 'the other boat' in the 1950s which was about an interracial love affair. Although Maurice is unusual in that it has a happy ending whereas Forster's short story ends tragically from what I remember. That said, an unhappy ending was the only chance of getting homosexual content past censorship.
