It's seen as socially unacceptable to go out alone, so for me personally I would look at that as a failure because it's got to the point where there's no-one to go with you.

It used to be seen as socially unacceptable for females to go out alone - not now.

Never for men (seen as butch if anything - think Clint Eastwood, James Bond walking in etc. etc.).

Andersonson had a girlfriend before. So he is capable of getting one. Just needs to work on keeping them.

He needs to let his hair down and enjoy life, and go out. Keep himself busy. He seems fairly intelligent, he has his own business. He has to focus on the positives in his life.

I don't think it's socially unacceptable to go out alone.

If people see you alone, they probably think you're waiting for someone, anyway - at first. And before very long you'll be chatting to somebody else and you won't be alone.

Some people go out for a quick drink, or a meal, or cinema for a bit of peace because they have so many people clamouring for their attention in their lives - I used to be like this.

I think a person, male or female, on their own can also seem alluringly mysterious.

I'd definitely go out alone if I didn't have anyone to go out with; every time I do have to go out on my own (for example another city with work) I ALWAYS manage to chat to someone, and I would hardly say I was the most approachable person you'll ever meet either, but if you're open minded to random company, frankly, it can be fun.

You'll never make friends sitting around indoors, the effort has to be made. I've always said you can never have too many friends, and frankly, it's true. The more effort you make, the more you'll be rewarded for it.

And just to +1 what Dolls says, people on their own can seem "alluringly mysterious"; there's a girl in my street who I never see with company, and seemingly pretty quiet, but there's something about her that makes you want to somehow learn more about.

And as much as some like to frown upon drinking these days, a couple of drinks can go a long way to help you loosen up.

Well it's very sad that you think like that. I used to go out by myself to the cinema and to restaurants, pubs etc. I was single, and I wasn't going to hide away. I had friends but they weren't always about to socialise with. It would have been a failure if I just sat indoors when no one was around, worrying about what people would think if i dared go outside to enjoy myself without any company.

There are even people on here who say they do things alone like go to the cinema. It's bad enough that stigmas are still around, but why are you reinforcing them by believing them? Joe Bloggs on the street doesn't give a crap how you are feeling, they don't know you. So why are you giving into stupid stigmas, and making them dictate how you lead your life?

Go out and do something you enjoy. Stuff what strangers think. Their opinions mean diddly squat.

If I went out on my own I'd be depressing myself further by looking round and seeing that others are in the company of other people. I'd then think to myself what are they doing right and what am I doing wrong? I'd go home hating myself because of this and would not do it again.

Why though? I go away do different cities with work. I am initially on my own, but very rarely by the end of the night. There's a lot more to some people being alone than meets the eye.

    Stop looking around then. ;-)

Go out and do something enjoyable. Go to the cinema. Watch a film. You can't look around at other people it's too dark in there. And people will think you're odd if you keep looking back at them.:D

Do something for yourself. A big mac evening. No one else is invited.

It's not like I stare at them repeatedly. You must go in to a building and have a look round to see who's in though?

I don't watch films not interested in them. I've hardly ever watched any films all the way through.

That's every evening for me anyway and that's what the problem is in the first place.

The idea is to get you out even if you are on your own. Change of scenery.

You can't dismiss all films, there are so many different types. You'll be telling me next you don't watch TV.

I don't have the patience to sit and watch them. I'm just not interested. I reckon I've probably sat and watched about ten films in my whole life.

    Well you post on here.:p

Get a pet, they're good for people with depression. A cuddly friend who needs your undivided attention. But you'll probably say you're allergic, or hate animals.

I've a phobia of dogs. I'm not really interested much in animals, no.
