hd fury 2 should be on YUV or component. Not RGB. It seems like its working fine!
IN TSPE, once you've opened the recording, check the window box bottom right. Check that its empty when you click on both EDL and Markers. If not, click on clear to empty it. Then click on scan. Should take a minute or two. Then again check in the window box bottom right. It should still be empty. For both EDL and Markers. Also, while its scanning, it should indicate errors in the box bottom left as it scans. It will finish by telling you how many continuity breaks there are. You should see none.

It should detect the green screen. Are you getting a picture in the grey window? Does it play when you click on play? TSPE requires other software like ffdshow and haali splitter if it doesn't play the video.

So no errors come up even with the green bit? I don't know why not.
Another checker of recordings is eac3to. It can check recordings but is not as good as tspe.
It can do many things, but to check a recording type this:
eac3to recording.ts -check
and it will scan through the recording. If you just type eac3to it will give you a bewildering number of options! There is help on the web at doom9.org

Thanks, will try that.

Is there nothing in the device or format settings on the Hauppauge HD PVR that might need changing? Anything that may get rid of the stutter, or even improve the recordings?

Also on the preview my video has 2 tiny black bars at the side, what's this? It doesnt show up when i go full screen or play the recording back in a media player. Not really important i guess, but would iike to know

I don't use the preview just in case it leads to dropped frames in the recordings so don't know why you have black bars at the side. If they're not there when you play them back then I don't think it really matters. I don't know why you're seeing stuttering and if you've maxed out the recording bit rate that's all you can do. My recordings are free from stuttering. Have you played them back on a different pc or other piece of equipment to confirm that it is the recording?

Excellent! So you're now getting very good quality HD recordings - yes?
I presume that you get a green line at the top of the screen if you turn overscan off in your tv?
So the next thing will be editing adverts out - or can the latest version of Total Media Extreme do that for a blu-ray now? Oh - and finding a decent HDMI splitter.

Yeah the quality is great. Especially with no green screens or stutters! I can only put the smaller recordings onto a DVD disc just now though as i dont have a blu ray writer yet.

Cant really notice the green line so no real problems there. I had completely forgotten about it!

The Total Media Extreme lets me edit adverts out, but to say it's a little inaccurate is being somewhat kind!

tspe is supposed to be an editor but I could never get it to work accurately. As I said I use the software that came with my blu-ray writer, and that is frame accurate but it does recode the programme which takes ages even if I have smart rendering turned on. Until something better and free comes along I'll keep using it!
If anyone knows a good editor and blu-ray authoring package at reasonable cost please let me know.

Back with yet another problem!

How come the Arcsoft TotalMedia Studio wont let me insert videos that are of a large file size? I have no clue what's wrong. It checks the video and loads up about half way, and i get the dreaded "...is not responding" message which makes it shut down.

It says "Arcsoft TotalMedia Studio has stopped working" - "windows is checking for a solution to the problem" and then i have to click the "close program" button

I don't use it so can't really help. Are you trying to edit out adverts? You've got a later version than mine but mine will only write to a dvd as an output - upto 9GB max. No option for blu-ray so maybe it does have a file size limit?
As I've said, I use power director to edit out the adverts - it came with my blu-ray writer and it does the job. Doesn't have a blu-ray authoring program though but as I save to USB hard drives it doesn't matter to me.

Hmmmm, think the problem may be that when i fast-forward through the adverts during the recording, as the picture goes all choppy, which causes the thing to stop working. I've inserted videos that i recorded over night, that are of a larger file size but without any fast-forwarding during them, and it lets me edit them fine.

Yes that does upset power director too. So I don't fast forward any more!

Would you recommend turning the preview off while recording? I usually leave it on and watch the program while it's recording in the HDPVR. As my HDMI splitter doesnt work, i currently have my Sky box connected through to the DVD recorder with a scart to watch on tv until i find a working splitter, so prefer to watch it recording on the computer. Can't be bothered to plug and unplug every time i need to use it. Don't know if using the preview makes for a 'worse' recording? Do you leave the preview on?

I turn the preview off but then my splitter works!
I don't think it harms the recording but I'm not going to take the risk as I don't need to. I'd be interested to know what splitter does and doesn't work when you finally get one that does the job. Cheers.
