Being targeted
Over the last 2 weeks I've had eggs thrown at my window during the night. Last night it was an egg and some dog shit.
My son recently came out as gay so I'm assuming it's got something to do with that as I've no enemies that I'm aware of and neither has my wife. Here's what I want advice about, my wife wants to involve the police whereas I want to sit up late with the lights off and catch them in the act and give them a severe doing. My reasoning is that the police are very infective and don't really take this sort of thing seriously so it could go on for some time whereas kicking the hell out of them is more direct and let's them know they've picked a bad target. Any thoughts ? |

Before you possibly get yourself into some kind of legal bother how about installing some CCTV to catch them in the act.
I can understand your wife wanting to go to the police as you hear so many storys about people who confront these type of yobs and end up getting hurt. What these people are doing is pathetic an childish and if it is because your son has come out as gay then that is just even more idiotic. |

One for the police to deal with. Report it as a possible hate-crime and they'll take it seriously.
Tempting as it is, you could be the one who gets badly hurt or locked-up for giving someone a doing. |

The nine year old must be terrified so I can totally see why you want this dealt with ASAP.

Is the area outside your house well-lit at night? Do you have one of those motion-sensor lights? You may find the surprise of a light, taking away their cover of darkness, is enough to keep them away. Your mileage may vary though.
If you were to combine this with CCTV, just banging on the window if you see them on the camera might be enough to scare them away. I like a Rambo confrontation as much as the next guy but dealing with this problem with violence just invites too much trouble. |

I think a key issue here is, do you know the person or people doing this? Could the police go give them a call and warn them to stop their actions?
The person that targeted me would run away if I came out yelling insults as they went. But I had CCTV and logged every time they visited , printed off a clear picture of their mug and logged it. Now the reason for the Police warning is that is a clear point from which the courts can prosecute. in my case they targeted my entire family and where very shocked when they got sent to prison. Another bod they targeted did get him done over , but it just made things worse. the bods neighbours all got a letter claiming he was this and that. Id go the Police, CCTV lights on sensors route myself best of OP |
