Pain in Left Knee

hello all

hopefully the medical minded among you can help.

A few months ago, i got pain in my left knee, to the point when i walked on it, it was really painful, and reduced me to almost limping.

It has occurred again today and seems to be on the bone on the outside of the knee. Its only happened twice and only on one knee..

Just wondered whether anyone would have an idea of the cause? Or what i should do? Have been looking online for assistance but no joy.

I had this once. Turned out it was symptomatic of another problem which was arthritis in my hip. I had to have a hip replacement a year later.

Best popping to the docs to arrange an xray.

I have exactly the same in my right knee.
Had it a few years now, I put it down wear and tear.
Will keep an eye on the responses.

Could it be muscle strain of part of the Quadriceps muscle(vastus lateralis)? I have unstable knees, so occasionally I get it. There tends to be a firm lump just above the knee, towards the outside of the leg. I am housebound for a few days at a time.
