I have and I'm not sure why that's relevant?

Well NJP and Jellied Eel seemed to take up the positions of opposing experts so I wondered if they had seen the reality of the situation.

    Ah right.

It hasn't changed my mind on the subject. There's just as much rust and incompetence as in most industry.

Why would that be, one of my fields of expertise is nuclear plant instrumentation.
Yes, we've run up against the Black Cloud competency paradox again. On here, every time you talk about physics or engineering, you get it hopelessly wrong. Yet in Real Life, you are an expert, but are forbidden by the Official Secrets Act to reveal any of your expertise.
By the way have you been in any of Sellafields active plants.
No. Would it have helped? I visited a nuclear power station as a physics undergraduate (a "special" tour).

    That didn't help either.

Not at all thhe OSA only forbids me from discussing what I'm working on we can talk about measurement and control. I just happen to have specialised in nuclear plant control.

Yes and I suspect you, along with many Greens and Guardian Readers would be dissapointed.

    PS
Would this 'Special' tour have taken you into controlled () areas by any chance

Surely you would need to know my expectations, in order to judge whether or not I was disappointed?

But actually, you are right. It was all a lot less shiny than the nuclear power plant of my imagination.

It wasn't a regular tour, if that's what you mean. But there was strictly no admittance to The Core.

Even if you could access it the reactors core would not be a healthy place to visit and there's not much to see in the area around the bioshield.

    No, really?

Well, you really do learn something new every day. I can see now why they got you to sign the OSA.

I have to say I was a bit disappointed. 2 main reasons-

    1) Control room had big display showing core and rod temperatures. This was depressingly low. But that was because I was young and impressionable hoping to see thousands of degrees like in the movies. Not just the right kinda temperature to make steam all day long.

    2) No sirens and people being chased by monsters. Again I blamed the movies.

But then that's quite common. People get mislead by nuke-FUD from greens
