Post-Alien Invasion Movies?

so I caught the last half an hour of War of the Worlds the other night and wondered what happens next? Has anyone ever tackled the issues of what to do after a world wide alien invasion. What about all the mess? The potential threat of subsequent attacks? The certainty of 'we're not alone'.

The only one I can think of is District 9 are there any others?

Not a film but V (the mini series) comes to mind when I read your post.

Otherwise, the others I can think of are:

    - Alien Nation (probably the nearest to what you have in mind)
    - They Live (the population doesn't know)
    - Reign of Fire (dragons)
    - Monsters (you don't really see aliens)

Edit: Does Men in Black count? I haven't seen this film and its sequels.

haven't seen Alien Nation or V in years, maybe I should check them out again.

I saw They Live a few weeks ago and found it rather annoying tbh. Monsters I forgot about that one, mainly due to the fact it was instantly forgettable.
But I guess there have been quite a few.

I just found out there are two sets of 'V the mini series' and one TV series. One in 1983 (two episodes) and another in 1984 (three episodes), and a TV series in 2011 (19 episodes).

The one I saw is the 1983 version and didn't know about the rest. I must see the rest. How could I resist it? :o

I thought there would be more, but I don't think there were. Surprising, really. What about that TV series, the one with whatishisname from E.R.? Noah something?

I've not looked into the V dvd's. I remember watching both the TV movie and the campy miniseries on TV but that was years ago.

I'm not sure about the other series you mentioned tbh.

There's also John Travolta's Battlefield Earth. It's not as bad as people say it is - it's WORSE

    Daleks Invasion Earth 2150AD.

Earth was magnetised thus rendering it inhospitable to Daleks.

However this new obsession with making everywhere disabled-accessible is quite clearly a clever undercover Dalek plot to allow them to invade in the future and have access to previously inaccessible locations.

You may like Stephen King's The Mist, not aliens per say but they're monsters and they take over. Some great scenes in that movie!

    Not quite right ;)

    V (1983 miniseries) (two parts)

V: The Final Battle (1984 miniseries) (three parts)

V: The Series (1984 TV series) (19 episodes)

In 2009 there was a remake of the original V, which lasted for 2 seasons and totalled 22 episodes (12+10).

    V (2009 TV series)

Both incarnations of V ended with an unsatisfactory cliffhanger :(

    DVD box-sets:

    V (original) - The Complete Collection (V + V: The Final Battle + V: The TV Series)

    V (remake) - seasons 1 & 2

Well, Alien invasions aren't always as messy as WOTW.
You could go back to the truly classic ' Invasion of the Body Snatchers' (Don Siegel, 1956) remade in 1978, 1993 and 2007.
Once discovered, the aliens generate panic and paranoia. That tends to be the aftermath.

'District 9' reminded me of 'Alien Nation' which actually generated a short-lived TV series and like the movie was really a study of racialism. Alien invasion movies are nearly always about the nature of 'otherness' and how the existing population deal with that 'otherness'.

The great Gerry Anderson recognised what might be the relentless nature of alien invasion in 'UFO' (1970) and 'Captain Scarlet and The Mysterons' (1967-68).

Oliver Stone's 'Wild Palms' (1993) was a bit like 'V' in that it dealt with how the resistance would be organised against an 'alien' takeover.

And the best example is John Carpenter's 'They Live' (1988) which is a prescient satire on the 'alien' ruling classes and how they blinker the rest of us. A work of genius when you consider what has happened in relation to the recent financial crisis.

I watch these films and think there's 30 thousand tons (or whatever) of scrap metal floating around in the sky, what do you do with it all?
My favourite part of Shaun of the Dead is the final few minutes dedicated to the aftermath and the typically naff British way of dealing with it - Zombies Do The Funniest Things, 'I'm Want To Marry A Zombie' on Trisha, zombies employed by supermarkets as trolley collects. Would love to see something like this in regards to alien invasion movies. No drama, no Tom Cruise just wry observations and satire.

I think I would have liked They Live a bit more without all the OTT-ness. It had everything there I was looking for but went from social satire to The A-Team. :(

Thinking like that probably leads to some sort of half decent film script I would suggest.

You may want to think it through. Communications would be difficult mind you with all that space junk and much of it would probably mess up the atmosphere/climate for some time.
But then again it might inspire some economic growth, retro fitting the world might work.

    maybe I should get writing.:p

I would image it would bring temporary disruption to just about everything but then eventually, the dust would settle, the UFO's would get dismantled, sold off as commemorative chunks on QVC and life would return to the inaneness we are familiar with, only it'd be slightly different.

That's what loved about District 9, it's all just so unspectacular. What do you do with a redundant UFO? stick it in the slums - out of sight, out of mind. :p

The wrap up after 'Independence Day' would be a bit daunting!
