Does being completely hairless help in the water or something?

apparently it makes them more streamlined.

hence a lot of them have either skinheads or wear swimming caps.

Don't people wear those seal suits these days?

Even if they were only using trunks, I doubt they'd have to shave their whole body.

    yeah.

still think they like to shave themselves though.

must be an olympic swimmers code or something.

I suspect that shaving body hair can knock a fraction of a second off their times

    Yes, he shaved it all.

Why did he shave it all? I'm intrigued why he shaved "down there"

Very strange. Just an excuse to do something 'odd' if you ask me.

I understand why swimmers do it, but men who shave all their body hair just look wierd, especially their smooth legs and armpits

I'd never do it. It grows back spiky, and also, it must feel weird.

Plus i kinda like my rugs, in a weird sort of way.

Sorry, you say you understand why they do it but then you don't explain. I too understand to a certain extent why they shave exposed areas, although I'm not over convinced that body hair increases drag to that extent. But why do they shave around the genital area which is covered anyway. I still think it's weird.

After seeing some of the divers during the Olympics earlier this year, when I saw how hairless all of the divers looked, (especally around the legs), it inspired me to try and get rid of the hair on my body, (apart from the hair on my head of course!!!! :D:D:D:D), so I got my shaver I normally use for cutting off excess facial hair and proceeded to cut off the hair growing on my chest, my arms and my legs. I don't know why I didn't instead use a waxing kit!:D The result was hideous and left me with an extreme itchy feeling for almost two weeks! :p I was ridiculed for it for a few weeks afterwards! :o

I figured that if I shaved off my excess hair, then I would appear to be more attractive to girls when I go swimming! :p

I don't even think there is any proven significant advantage to it and you can't even test it reliably due to other variables, other things are going to have a far greater effect. What next? Nose jobs to reduce drag?

    Desperation!

They have banned the body suits now as too many records were being broken. FINA the international governing body want swimming to be more about natural ability and less of a high tech arms race.
