Increase in Virgin broadband speed

I've just received an email offering to upgrade my broadband speed from 30mb to 50mb "at no extra cost".
However they want me to "ask" for it by clicking on a link.
If it's free why don't they just do it and then tell me I have it? I don't know why I have to ask for it and am worried that there is some sort of catch.
Googling hasn't really helped.
Any thoughts?
