i dont expect them not to cover who won, and i dont really appreciate being called stupid. Every week they dont reveal the fired candidate. they post the story, but the headline tells you nothing, so its avoidable. Why is it stupid to assume they would follow this trend during the final?

The winner of a 10 week series is 'breaking news'. Who is fired on a per-week basis is not.

I think that might be you told OP

    not really.
i stick with my original opinions, and although I see where everybody is coming from and agree with what they say in some situations, they are overlooking the fact that ds never spoils firings, so it would be right to assume the winner would not be spoiled.
there are a lot of rude people on these forums.

It was stupid of you to visit a website dedicated to covering this sort of news and expect them to do a blanket ban on telling us who one. I'm not calling you stupid, but your decision was kinda.

If you wanted to watch sports match on delay - would you go onto Sky Sports news and then complain because they're scrolling headling didn't say "Someone wins the Ashes"

You'll only do it once though.

I learned the hard way too a few years ago.

Yes people can be rather harsh on here.

This is the biggest TV event of the week, and DS is a website devoted to entertainment and media.

If you were determined not to watch the programme live then you should have known to avoid the website.

I agree, should not have visited the website, an accident waiting to happen!

I watched the finale on a time-shifted delay. 1st thing I did when I sat down to watch it was to close the DS Forum Tab in my browser.

What on earth are you expecting? You visit a website specialising in TV broadcasting, and thats what you get?

If you didn't want to know the result, why didn't you shut yourself in a room for however long it would be, with the lights out?

It's so boring to name the winner in a red headline.

Not naming the winner would encourage visitors to click on a link and read the actual article, too.

I wasn't on the editorial site though, just on the computer forums and I forgot about the breaking news banner. I would have thought they would have said 'Apprentice winner announced' though or something, not spoil it for anyone who was planning on watching it later.

With the amount of people who watch iplayer and have PVRs and record 1 thing and watch another I'm surprised Digital Spy went and just spoiled it like that.

Glad someone else gets where i'm coming from. really dont see why they cant break it that way so it doesnt spoil for some people.

i've seen people complain about the stupid breaking news banner before, but usually its not that bad. Seriously annoyed now though.
I was innocently going through the ds forums, waiting for the apprentice to finish so i could iplayer it, and there at the top of the page is the red banner telling me the winner.
Is it not possible to just have "Apprentice Winner Chosen" or just nothing at all?
    ridiculous.

I predicted that by a mile...

I agree, it really isn't necessary. The people who know the result from watching the show will already know the winner, the people who haven't seen the show yet will not want to know the winner - all the banner is doing is ruining the result for people. Fine, have a news story on the first page of the website, but there's no need for the banner that is just a nuisance.

As much as I'd like to be one of those people who are quickly in saying 'well what do you expect?' and the like, I think it's easy to overlook the fact the OP is a relatively new member of the site. While DS veterans will all be well aware of the risks of browsing the site in the midst of high profile events, new members and the less net-savvy may not be aware of this... Ideally, when members join they should be given some kind of notice in their initial sign-up email that this sort of thing can and does happen. At least then, they'd have been warned and have far less place to complain!

Here's the link to contact DS

    http://www.digitalspy.co.uk/contact/?contact_type=general

If enough people complain, maybe DS will change their policy. Better to do that than complain in the forums.

I agree OP! They don't usually give the name of the person in the title during the firings so I thought it would be the same for the winner. There goes me catching up later. :

did this straight away anyway and got the basic reply:
    Hi,

Thanks for the message. Your feedback regarding Digital Spy, whether positive or negative, is greatly appreciated. Your comments have been passed onto the relevant departments and will be taken into consideration.

    Regards,
    DS Support

hope they do actually do something

How long should it remain secret for?

As already said, it is no longer a spoiler. It is public knowledge who has won.

I have also submitted feedback to digital spy.

I thanked them for covering stories on the website about the apprentice, and for doing a quick banner if accessing the forums, once decisions were public knowledge. I also said I hoped they continue doing this next year.

well why do you need the quick banner? if your interested you would either be watching it live, or watching it on catch up, in which case you wouldn't want it spoiled.
think sending positive feedback about the banners is just spiteful and childish. and then you post it in a thread about disliking it. surely you're doing it just to rub it in peoples faces?

If you really wanted to avoid it, you wouldn't have had any contact with the outside world.

And believe it or not, I don't think sending digital spy feedback about something positive is childish at all. I put the fact that I sent feedback in this topic, to show that there are people (of which I am one, otherwise I wouldn't have sent feedback I disagree with for the sake of it) who think the opposite, and don't have a problem with it. I kind of enjoy the red flashing banner, sometimes there has been news I have genuinely found out about from this website, and then I have put the TV on after to watch it.

I completely agree with you, your post makes total sense. The breaking news banner caught me out tonight too (am just watching the final atm), but because I am only mildly interested in The Apprentice I didn't really mind finding out the winner in advance.

However, I know if I was a real fan of the show who was looking forward to the suspense of not knowing who was going to win whilst watching it I'd be very peed off indeed.

I agree with that. The red banner is excellent when for shock celebrity deaths, or shock career moves such as people quitting tv shows. It makes the stories seem bigger and makes it a bit exciting. I just dont think it should be used for to reveal tv show winners. Have it on the home page fine. Maybe even have it in the apprentice section of the forums. But it shouldnt be flashing in completely unrelated sections of the forum. You should be allowed to go to other parts and feel safe from the spoiler banner.

    Burn!

To be fair to the OP, I won't come down on him because he hasn't been here a very long time, maybe wasn't fully aware of how they worked.
