I googled "Doc Martin Colin Towns ringtone" and got multiple results. Haven't done it myself though, so I can't tell you more.:)

I have some exciting plans to make the Portwenn Online site more interactive. Stay tuned for a year-long fun exercise starting in January.

I thought we could start off with a couple of surveys before then. The first survey is: "What was your favorite episode in Series 6?" The survey will close at 12:01 AM on December 1st. This will give everyone time to catch up on Acorn.

Go to the home page and click "Current Survey" on the left side of the page.

Seems there's a manly place to admit to watching Doc Martin. Love it!

Just watched "Beauty" in toto today in 5 parts on YouTube that didn't require searching too much for the next installment. Written by Simon Nye, directed by Ben Bolt. Lots of pre nascent Doc Martin bits...snapping fingers..hand clapping. Martin used teeth and a touch of makeup to look peculiar. Was very sweet. I liked it. Now I'll try Sex "n" Death again. I couldn't see it very well but maybe on second watch will change my mind. I love the "elderly" version of "Trainspotting" when the Dad was taking his back meds in Beauty. Martin is always adorable no matter how they make him look.

Mofromco, can you post a link, or at least tell us whose channel it was on? I have been trolling YouTube for months looking for this with no luck. Searches on both YouTube and Google have come up empty.

The neighbor with scurvy was not played for laughs in any way. I felt sorry for him from the beginning because I could tell that sadness was causing his crankiness. When they diagnosed him, Ruth thought his depression caused him to start hoarding and eating badly which led to the scurvy. Martin thought the bad eating and hoarding came first and the scurvy caused the depression. That scene was prescient because Martin tries to find a physical reason for his insomnia and blood phobia.

Nice one. Haven't noticed or thought about it, but it makes absolutely sense.
I also agree with your description of Louisa in S5 and S6.

I felt that she did an inventory in the hospital after the accident and realized her emotional condition was causing her harm. Her personal insecurity told her she was causing Martin to be unhappy. I think she was probably right to go away for a while, and I never felt she was leaving PW for good. Nor do I think she had decided to leave the marriage.

It was hard to understand what she said in the hospital when she told M she wasn't coming home. Did she say "I'm not happy" or did she say "we're not happy?" Was her mumbling that done on purpose in the acting so we were left to guess at what she said, or was CC speaking just that unclear with that line? Could just be my ears. What does everyone think she said? Her following line "I'm not making you happy, am I?" came out clearly.

L exuded confidence in this series, however the insecurities seemed to reappear as M's mental condition deteriorated.

I also think they each have their own individual perception of "happy". They've never defined the word and what it means to each other and that's what gets them into trouble.

    :) nice site.

    Thanks KiwiKid.

I'm trying to make it a really good resource for DM, MC & CC fans. It will be a repistory for everything I cand find on all three. I'll also throw a bit of the other cast members and crew in there, but there is just SO much to try to gather together on the show and the two principal actors that there is my focus.

I have a page that should be ready to upload this weekend that I think a lot of people will really like. I also have plans for a longer term project and will work on that a bit every day. And the interactive stuff should be a fun way to pass the next 14 months (when we get the "official - official" word that is is recommissioned it is now only 14-15 months away!)

I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE retirement! :D

Some think that Louisa's insecurities led her to question Martin's feelings for her, as his condition deteriorated, which in turn made her more insecure.

I think indeed he is feeling boxed in and suffocated, but cannot bring himself to acknowledge those feelings, either to himself or Louisa. If they could talk about it, they might be able to deal with it!

I just watched this again. I guess I found it interesting in that his true love was the producer of his show...interesting parallel. Otherwise, what a strange piece. Martin Clunes at his roly poly best....giving us a shot of what looked like a real erection in those Calvin's. The man has no vanity...I find that fascinating. Still, I found him fascinating and strangely attractive. He's amazing.

When Margaret Ellingham tells her son that his father has died, the more I think about it the less I think he has actually died. She couldn't get her story straight as to exactly what caused his death. AR earlier on sized her up as a shoplifter among other things. In the closing scene with her at the airport, we see that she has lifted Aunt Joan's antique clock which DM painstakingly fixed to working order. I am wondering if she came back to PW strickly to get a large amount of money from her son and, when he was not forthcoming, behind his back, she took the clock. If, indeed, Christopher Ellingham had died, I would think there would have been a notice in a London paper, or I would think that DM would have heard about it through the medical circles one way or another.

Agree with you NP. But before they can talk in a meaningful way, I think Louisa also should have psychiatric or psychological help to address her insecurities. They are undermining her ability to help Martin. Granted he is much more damaged than she is, but she will only continue to react badly to him until she is secure herself. With James Henry approaching one years old, Martin and Louisa have to get a handle on their relationship or they are going to start bringing their child into their psycho-drama. I don't think either of them wants that.

That was postulated as a possibility, but I think that it would be easily sorted out. I think it totally possible for Martin not to have heard..his Dad was an eminent surgeon but wouldn't have been in the newspapers or anything. Plus, he has been so out of it the past few months that he could have totally missed it. He doesn't have friends so to speak...Chris Parsons has disappeared. Why she took the clock...I have no idea....it could be valuable but do you think it's valuable enough to support her? I can't imagine any clock would be worth more than 30 or 40 thousand pounds...I guess that could pay the rent for a little while...but I just didn't get it....?

I wonder if he was dead when she came from Portugal..having lost her villa one way or another. So many unanswered questions.

I agree with all of the above. He needs some help, she needs some help, and additionally, I think couples counseling could help -- at least teach them some better ways of communicating with each other, and as part of couples counseling, I think each of them would come to know more about how their families of origin are shaping their responses to each other.

and yes -- get on with it by all means, before JH starts acting out too!

Marchand. Agreed that BP left many holes in Margaret's "story." Margaret may not have been in Christopher's life when he died, she heard of it from old friends, but had no details. She may have tried to exploit his death to obtain money from Martin or to do more psychological damage to him. Or she could have faked the death for the same reasons. I also wonder why Aunt Ruth wouldn't have heard of the death. She made a recent trip to London for her book, and it is likely that someone would have mentioned the death. The name "Ellingham" is not the most common, so her medical colleagues would have heard of the death.

Margaret's motives for taking the clock are equally nefarious: Martin insulted her and she is seeking revenge by taking something of either sentimental or monetary value to him. Although I don't think he cares as much about the money as the history of the clock.

I don't think Margaret is without money. She probably still has the villa in Portugal and just wants to grab more money while she can. I also think -- despite her reaction -- that she knew Martin was married, had a child and thought she could soften him up through Louisa. Remember the comment she made about whose side Louisa was on?

I would be surprised if Margaret doesn't re-appear in Series 7 and be the ultimate key to unlocking Martin's problems. He has not vanquished her or his problems yet.

Agreed...Mummy will be back or Martin will find Mummy one way or another....S7 has so many issues to resolve. It will hard to keep our imaginations from going wild. I do not want geriatric Doc Martin, but I wish their series had more than 8 shows. This last one went so fast and there's so much more work to do........but I can't see it going to 2017. Then it will be,"Good evening Louisa, shall I take my Viagra tonight or not?"

I am having a premonition that Mummy Dearest will die in S7. That may be some type of closure.

I see DM as a man who is fully growing into adulthood since series 1, but especially since series 3. I won't go into chapter and verse of why I think that. But the progression of recognizing of his parents abuse, coming out of his denial about it, and finally shedding their influence were huge events in his life. A next step may be acceptance that his blood phobia is going to be with him and he may have to just accept himself. He calls it blood "sensitivity". He can't even say the word at this point.

I agree about the growth, but I would include Louisa, too.
If we look at the ending of each season, I personally think we see a developent to more mature behaviour.
S1-2: He makes a stupid remark and she throws him out of the taxi or slaps him. I'd say it's the maturity grade of six year olds on a playground.
S3: They suddenly realise a few minutes before the wedding that this is for real. I'd say it's the maturity grade of teenagers who are in love for the first time.
S4-5: They try to stand their own ground, try not to give in too much. In the end, a critical situation let the adrenaline and hormones boil over and a desperate, emotional realisation of desire brings them back together.
Again, they are more like teenagers.
S6: They have both realised by now that relationships need work. They won't be able to stay who they are. They need to change and nudge forward, accommodating the other ones need.
They now rather stay apart an d work on themselves first than been thrown back together by sheer emotions. There is no shouting and emotional outburst in the season's finale. They talk quietly and civilised and are - surprise! - agreeing on the direction they have to take.
    They have reached early adulthood.

They are on the right track.
