Carried over from the Islamification thread where certain passionate posters informed me the BBC is impartial to political agendas. Well due to public demand here it is, thoughts?
Forgetting that bias and impartiality are entirely subjective, no.
The BBC gets equal flak from both left *and* right, many times on the same stories, because they are not reporting what those people/parties/pressure groups *want* them to report. This is why many people claim that the BBC is biased to one side or to the slant of the government of the day, and yet they claim that Fox "News", the Faily Heil and the Grauniad are impartial.
The trouble with many bias is that it can be subjective, if your to the let of wherever the BBC is they will see right leaning, if you are right of them they will seem left leaning. In the same way many people might see the Mail as biased but others see it as honest.
I voted not sure, don't watch enough of the BBC but as another posted pointed out they can't be all bad if they get accused if bias from both sides
Could the OP explain what is meant by "clearly biased"? Is this to mean that it favours left wing parties, or that it has a "liberal" and "egalitarian" consensus?
Wow, amazed it confused you. It simply asks if the BBC is 'clearly' ie obviously.. biased towards the left. Meaning from the news they select to the way in which they present 'opinion' - are they biased towards leftist ideals. These can manifest through ultra political correctness or simply regurgitating leftist propaganda.
But please if you have any doubts, just vote no and save us the heart ache!
"On pretty well every issue of the day, the BBC has its “party line”, dictating what can and cannot be said, who it invites on and who it excludes: from the EU and global warming to gay marriage; from wind farms to government “cuts”; from Israel to fracking. This is to the point where too many of its programmes are little more than propaganda, put over by self-regarding presenters who frequently cannot hide their impatience with anyone who doesn’t agree with the groupthink."
Like all forms of showbusiness, it's naturally biased towards a liberal point of view. On most hot button topics, that usually means a left leaning bias as the left have taken on the matle of liberalism but it's disingenuous to call it a left-leaning bias as it's correlatory association, not a causal one.
It's much the same as the press being branded "right-wing", which is similarly disingenuous as they're actually populist and that just happens to correlate to right-wing views. The moment something popular and left-wing comes up (like the NHS), they can't worship it hard enough.
I see no sign whatsoever of any left-leaning tendencies. Perhaps people who call the BBC lefty could point them out?
Maybe they have gotten confused with definitions. Confusing that liberal political correctness with leftyness, because that's what New Labour embraced.
In fact the BBC is a coalition between liberals and conservatives, not a lefty for miles.
It's not at all, they give a hard time to most politicians and scrutinise their policies.
The only reason why the rightwing see it as biased is because:
A. They are in power and so will naturally be under the microscope more.
B. Many of their policies don't stand up to scrutiny.
It was exactly the same between 1997-2010 and will be the same once Labour get back in power in 2015.
I think it's comical when I see the rabid right ranting about bias. It's almost that "If you dare not blindly accept what we say, you must be Marxist leftists! BIAS! WAHHH!"
The BBC will be biased in favour of the left whenever it ceases to show the royal family travelling round the world and no longer has a royal correspondent. It is part of the establishment.

Spot on. I think they mean it is pro gay, anti racist and does not suck up to the tory party
The BBC doesn't cater for people on the middle ground of politics, it's all Punch & Judy these days. Which is why they get "confirmation" from the right and the left. Which is basically BS.
One fact is that the BBC' s political front line is staffed with Right Wingers.
If you want to find out what's going on these days you are better off watching Sky News, yes it is biased, but at least you know where the leanings lie.

Why then does 5Live give so much airtime to Katie Hopkins or is she another leftie liberal
Incidentally BBC commentators generally accept it is biased to the "liberal" consensus. Andrew Marr wrote an article on it somewhere
What do you mean by the liberal consensus, do you mean against racism and homophobia. shodul the beeb do more racist material and be more insulting to disabled people

If that is your criteria then it's never going to be met.
But you acknowledge that singing the people's flag in miliband underwear would meet most people's definition of bias apart from yours.

I've seen some desperate posts on here but that is unbelievable
Mind you considering Lord Patten is Chairman of the BBC Trust I don't suppose
it's all that surprising
On the advice of the Conservative-Liberal Democrat coalition government led by Prime Minister David Cameron Lord Patten of Barnes was appointed by the Queen-in-Council as Chairman of the BBC Trust, and he took office on 1 May 2011, in the place of Sir Michael Lyons whose contract was not renewed.

It's called confirmation bias:

Only left wingers think it is not biased

Ask me if I think Sky News is biased towards the Right, and I would say most definitely.

The idea that the BBC is objective is a big con.

It's also quite pro establishment too, which causes, I think, some confusion.
On the contrary, left-wingers often think it's biased to the right, as they believe it has a very Establishment, royalist fawning stance.

This report seems to be showing that the BBC is biased towards the right
