If someone asked who I thought was Tamla Motown's most important legacy, I would say Stevie Wonder. (no, not Michael Jackson!) Just an incredibly talented musician, arranger, singer and songwriter
My favourite (hit) songs
Lately
Higher Ground
Superstition
Sir Duke
My Cherie Amour
For Once In My Life
Livin' For The City
If You Really Love Me
With these - and albums like Songs In The Key Of Life and Innervisions - I will forgive him ..only just... for 'I just Called To Say I Love You'

no doubt about it, stevie wonder was (is) still an all round multi talented artist who paved the way for the likes of jacko, but unlike jacko who was controled and evolved into a corporate cash cow, stevie wonder concentrated on what he does best...making music.
i wonder how many people really know just how talented stevie is. i mean, how many people know he plays drums, bass and guitar on his records as well as keyboards
For Once In My Life
Living For The City
Don't You Worry 'Bout A Thing
Boogie On Reggae Woman
Sir Duke
I Wish
Do I Do
Overjoyed
Free (album track from 'Characters')
ill deck anyone who nominates 'i just called to say i love you'... its simply VILE
...
It may very well be one of Motown's best ever selling singles and an award winning song BUT it is poor compared to the majority of his output. I'd go along with vile as a description.

it's still no excuse for i just called to say i love you and ebony and ivory though. he's not getting away that easy!
Or Happy Birthday imo. Brilliant sentiment, God awful song.
When I opened this thread, my first thought was I Was Made To Love Her or Sir Duke but then I read some of the other choices and realised how impossible it is to choose just one or two songs.
I'd have to have a list which includes the 2 above plus:
Superstition
Living for the city
Higher ground
If You Really Love Me
Master Blaster
Another Star
All I Do
Have to agree with others who say Stevie is, was and always will be the true legend of Motown. There were and still are other greats of black music but, in a line up that includes so many real talents, he still stands head and sholders above.
The words legend and genius are used too lightly these days but they certainly fit the bill here

..... not bad for a blind man!
now THATS what i call 'talent'.
to write the songs he does, and play all the instruments and sing like he does is impressive for anyone, never mind a blind man
