Xbox unconfigured USB

Hi, my brother just went on the Xbox and his profile and saved game data for the game he was going to play is on a USB. However, the Xbox hasn't realised the USB has already been configured so he cannot resume his saved game and is saying we need to configure the USB, but this will delete everything on it already which we don't want. This has never happened before so was wondering if anyone knows how to fix this? Checked on the computer that the files are still on the USB, so we're trying to find a way for the Xbox to recognise that it's already been configured. Thanks.

you have to "show hidden files and folders" to see the xbox save folder too

Did what you both suggested and the files won't appear. I don't know if the USB has just mucked up for some reason because the properties says there's about 3GB being used yet no files will appear. In a couple of days I can try the USB on another Xbox to see if it's recognised on that but at the moment, looks like we won't get our save files back.
