Under-rated comedians

The unfunny comedians made me think about sine comedians who are so much funnier than alot of more successful ones around yet don't seem to get much praise.

I'll start with Kevin Bridges - now before you all say, he is very successful, however I feel he could be moreso.

Perhaps his strong Scottish accent and alot of his humour is Glasgow based let's him down.

Also Jon Richardson??????

Although that might change now he's got an award nomination.

His delivery is pretty good but his material does nothing; makes Peter Kay look cutting edge.

I really liked Andrew Lawrence's current Edinburgh show, I was surprised by how many 3/5 reviews it got, was worth more.

I often thought that aswell. Kevin does not get on all the usual TV comedy shows because he is not part of the London luvy comedy elite. I'm amazed with all the crap ones who are never off the Telly.

Kevin Bridges definitely. also love Mickey Flanagan to death.

I have a hard time remembering their names when I see them pop up on the telly. I do recall one posh comedian (or perhaps he was pretending, I don't know) but I did think he was very funny. Recalling an attempted mugging one time where the mugger asked for "all his money" and said comedian replied something along the lines of that being rather difficult, since most of it was tied up in bonds and equities.

To flip this on it's head a bit, the over-rated comedians are those who think that anyone who does observational/family friendly humour - basically anyone who doesn't do moody jokes about the evils of capitalism that about 12 people find funny.

There's an awful lot of comedic snobbery around these days. The alternative comedians of the 1980s would have faced similar back-lash because they were silly, albeit rude, but without any real purpose. So many comedic 'intellectuals' these days who think the only respectable form of comedy is one that tries to change the world with irony and view any comedian who takes a different path as beneath them.

    Saltydog!!! NOOOOOOOOO!!

Stephen K Amos is absolutely dire, he is the most serious "comedian" I have ever known.

Seriously, gah! I can't stand that man - he tries so hard to be earnest but literally, whenever I see him he is talking about being black and gay and you just think, yeah get over it. There are plenty more gay black men out there who are a million times funnier and not mentioning being black and gay every other sentence.

And I have a theory that Lenny Henry created Stephen K Amos in a lab to make him look funny. There I've said it! And it works, compared to Stephen K Amos, Lenny Henry is blooming hilarious!

....but yes, I adore Sean Lock too :D

Strange that you say that because he's been on all the regular shows such as HIGNFY, Mock The Week, 8 Out of 10 Cats, Would I Lie To You, Live at the Apollo, Michael McIntyre's Comedy Roadshow, Standup for the Week, Chatty Man, Jonathan Ross, Chris Moyle's Quiz Night...
