So, you can "smell defeatism" in a school that has improved at a higher level than the national average, without visiting it?

Interesting logic.

But according to him it is all down to Labour. Typical bonkers Tory logic.

    I disagree.

He's actually worse than the rest of them.

Pfft. I can smell rampant opportunism coming from every square inch of Labour Party's HQ. Is the logic now that I have to visit it first before making such a statement?

This is a truly awful thing to say! Those poor kids having to hear someone say this. Even more so when you have stats proving they are performing better than many other places.

Though I wouldn't expect anything less from him. He is another Tory who thinks the working classes are beneaf him.

That would be a reasonable response, were it not for the fact that East Durham's improvement statistics have exceeded the national average for quite a while now. Therefore in order to make such a statement you need something to back it up with.

And I'm a Liberal by the way, thanks for asking ;)

    I wasn't addressing you directly jjne. :)

Where is this report about East Durham schools exceeding the national average for quite a while? I ask because I've only checked two schools so far and neither of them fit that bill.

I did come across this post from a user writing into the Hartlepool Mail.
How quickly Blackhall Red forgets that his in the 10 years before Thatcher even came to power his beloved Labour party closed more pits in the Durham field than even she would come to close.

It is obvious that you have no comprehension of how an academy school (a labour idea) or a free school works Mr Red. With a free school you and parents from your local community can come together and help to shape your local school for your children, rather than a power mad socialist who thinks one size fits all across the whole of Durham.

Mr Gove is right, there is a lack of aspiration in Hartlepool and East Durham. We are too hooked up on the past and blaming people for it. In all that time we've stopped looking forward and listened to the local political class who tell us we are all deprived and need the government to create jobs for us. Rubbish! Where has that got us over the past 20 years?

Stop voting for the same old Labour lies. I'm not saying you should vote Conservative but for Christs sake, vote for someone other than Labour.

I was going on what Tyne Tees were saying earlier (in their 6pm news bulletin). I will admit that I didn't verify their claim -- and I'm from rural West Durham (this part of the county is quite different to the coastal areas).

I did, however, work from Durham County Council for a while, and did some work with the BSF project in East Durham (setting up the network IT services). I didn't notice any lack of aspiration on the part of the staff I worked with on the Education side.

Well it is a bit dumb not to. I suppose the logic is just to accept everything that the Tories do as brilliant even although they may not do anything at all.

I can smell rampant denial by a massive Tory apologist.
