Sony has sold over 1 million PlayStation 4 consoles in just 24 hours in North America.
The electronics giant launched the PS4 on Friday (November 15) in the US and Canada, the first region to receive the product.
The figures make the PlayStation 4 Sony's fastest-selling console to date.
Microsoft, which releases rival console the Xbox One on November 22, recently congratulated Sony on the PS4 launch.

I suspect Microsoft will release bigger figures than this but it will be based on sales made in all launch country's instead of just North America.
Though I'm not sure. MS were still overclocking their console whilst PS4 was in production, but on the flip side Sony are launching in more markets by the end of the year so would need the headstart on production.
Also interesting, though I expect the figures would be nearly equal is that the 1m figure is sold units, not shipped which is often given to give the impression of higher numbers.
That's just 1 retailer!
Insane!
That's not really possible, all electronics fail and it seems like lots when over a million are sold even if it's under 1% failure rate.
I don't understand that argument, either way MS is paid for selling 1 million units even if their sitting in Amazon's warehouse.
Yes but it's unlikely either are making much profit on the consoles. So if there sitting in the warehouses there making next to no profit, as most of it comes from subs and software.
But sales are better than shipped figures because it is easy to over ship, you could ship 1m widgets but only sell 10 widgets.
Using shipped figures doesn't show how well your product is actually doing.
In that case why use the sales of consoles to determine how well they are doing, looking at the top 10 games chart would give a better indication.
I was on PSU forums last night and their not quite sure that figure is accurate. Gamestop only have 600 stores so each store would be taking something like 4000 preoders. Whats more likely is that people are going in multiple stores to pre-order, making sure they get one somewhere. But someone then pointed out that gamestop do take details like Driving License etc when taking pre-orders so it could be right
