    2 things

1 if he's gone I'm not gonna cry he was a bad addition to the box, sometimes i want to ring sky and say for gods sake will someone tell Strauss to shut up he just waffles for ages silence is also good in the commentary.

2 I've never understood this apologising thing, you apologise for an unplanned occurance.
If you accidentally stand on someone's toe you apologise, why do people apologise for saying what he did?.
He obviously feels that way about the man so why apologise??
    You don't accidentally call somebody a c**t.

Saw this comment on Cricinfo regarding Finch's 181*

"Getting congratulated by SR Tendulkar on 50, BC Lara on 100 and S Chanderpaul on 150. What a day for Aaron Finch. Respect :)"

Doesn't get much better than that

    What a day for him

Crowded calendar and TV commitments I guess

Wait till December when we're supposed to be playing Sri Lanka in lots of ODI's

Be lucky to get a game completed I reckon

Is it just me, or Lara getting out to Colligwood just doesn't seem quite right, for a player of his esteemed standing in the game?

Any bowler is capable of bowling really good balls.

    Watching cricket writers atm

    Wonder if they'll discuss Strauss

Skirted over it with a brief mention in the initial round up of headlines

Haven't heard if Sky Sports have made a statement about his comments yet

Good job Strauss wasn't defamatory about a female cricketer or he would have followed the Keys and Gray exit path by now....

I think the fact that it is really a Sky problem and Cricket Writers is a Sky programme means that they have been told not to discuss it. It does seem like the elephant in the room of topical cricket interest though! I don't think it is the same as issues regarding demeaning women and John Inverdale is still high profile despite his crass comments about Marion Bartoli.

PS they are discussing it now!! It reminds me of when I put my foot in it - it's hard to apologise when he obviously meant what he said but just wishes he hadn't said it!

Good on Cricket Writers for discussing it

Vic Marks made a good point

What if the shoe was on the other foot and KP had called Strauss a *****, what would be the ECB's reaction...

don't think the ECB care either way now tbh

they have already washed their hands of KP and that wont change , if a commentator had made that sort of remark about a current England player they would probably have made some sort of protest to SKY but I reckon they will be quite happy that a negative opinion of KP from someone so close to the England setup has been aired as it validates their decision to sack him

Sri Lanka, fresh from their triumph over us, got well beaten by South Africa in the 1st Odi in Colombo eventually losing by 75 runs

Looks pretty certain india will play 5 bowlers in the first test and depending on result 5 bowlers throughout the tour.
    http://www.espncricinfo.com/england-v-india-2014/content/story/757983.html
I think india best chance of winning this series will be by playing 5 bowlers especially if the condition look dry and batting friendly. Having 2 Spinners that won't really effect the batting line up and still have 3 seam bowlers will be very handy especially since I think England will actually miss having a specialist spinner in this series.

i'll admit I don't know a lot about binny but from what I have seen and heard about him I would be far happier as an England fan if he ends up playing then india playing both ashwin and jadeja

Weirdly there's been positive reactions in India or in Twitter about Binny inclusion for the first test, considering he was a controversial pick when the squad got announced.

Most people want india to play 5 bowlers, some are Saying 4 seam bowlers ( Excluding Binny) and a Spinner, but this would leave india with a long tail Jadeja at 7 and B kumar at 8,So most don't mind if Binny plays the first test to strengthen the tail.

Most Indian fan are hating Rohit Sharma now because of his failing in South Africa and New Zealand so don't mind him getting dropped for Binny.

From what I have seen Binny bowling doesn't look dangerous, but English journalist present at leicester and derby did say his bowling should suit Trent Bridge and he did bowl well.

I would be Surprise if Binny plays the 2nd Test, Looks like they will play Ashwin at Old Trafford, Oval and Rose Bowl.

Does seem odd to let someone else captain whilst you're still in the team

Pre match chat with Charles and Franklin talking about how Taylor was ousted for BMac !

didn't sri lanka do something like this in a t20 WC as they were worried about mahela getting banned for slow over rates ?

Just want some neutral views on this, with India only picking one spinner at Trent bridge which spinner would you pick out of Ashwin or Jadeja ?
Fletcher and Dhoni have no idea which spinner is number 1, Ashwin played the first test at South Africa and Jadeja the last 3 Overseas.

Jadeja looks certain to be the number 1 spinner for the first test.
Not really much too choose between them.

Quite annoying asking indians this question with some preferring Ashwin, others Jadeja or some not liking both and still thinking about the glory days of the world class spinners.
Indian fans can be very fickle one or two failures and people wants the players dropped.

I would personally pick Jadeja. Ashwin Struggles to keep things tight when he isn't taking wickets and has a very poor record overseas, probably still needs to bowl lots of overs at first class level.

Could be a crucial series for both bowlers, since it is certain India would play one Spinner in the australia series during the winter.

assuming we are just looking at bowling I would probably pick jadeja , he doesn't spin the ball much but as you say does keep things tight and England batsmen tend to have more problems playing length against spinners than how much turn they get imo , and jadeja has been good at varying his length in the times I have seen him

ashwin in theory is the more talented bowler I think but his record outside india is pretty shocking altho he has only played 4 matches outside india

ironically even tho jadeja got into the test reckoning on the back of making 3 triple centuries in ranji cricket you would have to say ashwin has looked better with the bat in tests (hope that's right anyway as I haven't looked at jadeja's test batting record)

    Wow !!

Another of those boundary catches , this time by Trent Boult to get rid of Pollard

    Well worth catching up with

Full length one handed, realises he may go over the rope, lobs it up and then dives full length

    Absolutely outstanding

    Edit

Cricinfo explain it better than me :)

Anderson to Pollard, OUT, quick short ball! This is a mighty well taken HOKEY POKEY! Polly gets a taste of his own medicine! The batsman pulled this one fine, Boult, running backwards from deep midwicket takes a one-hander, off his left-hand.. but he is falling backwards.. He doesn't go against the nature.. Lobs the ball back in.. falls behind the boundary, then comes back and dives in to complete the catch.. what a stinger!
