i downloaded some video clips and changed the file format so that they are compatable with windows media player. Now they are playing in windows media but only the sound is playing and not the picture.

It is soo annoying!

Anyone got any clue what the problem could be and how to solve it?

Thanks :p

WMP can be a bit tricky with different files sometimes.
Download a programme called DivX and it will work much better for you, less issues with sound and pictures.

If you have video without sound you have a codec missing.

may I recommend you download the full pack of K-Lite Codec Pack... Just look it up in Google

You need codec for WMP to play some video files correctly. I have the Klite codec pack which works well: http://www.free-codecs.com/K_lite_codec_pack_download.htm (get the full version).

But as said, VLC will play just about anything you can throw at it.

agree about the codec packs. Free and simple to install and work a treat.

I also recommend the K-Lite codec pack since downloading that I've never had problems playing videos.

Yes K-lite is good and you can also try putting your settings back to default. I used to get a problem where the sound was OK but the pic was in black and white, resetting to default fixed it. I prefer VLC myself.
