As far as I can tell the only group that benefits from the likes of the BNP & EDF are Islamists.

As hampered the growth of Democracy in Germany after WW1. Fears from the ruling class about Bolshevism led to former soldiers forming right wing groups and things escalated. It just so happened that the Nazis made most capital from it. The rest, as they say, is hysterical.

    Because they're left of Labour.

Why do you think they're not?

Maybe the rise of the right extremism (if it is happening) is an indication that the left have failed to offer any solutions to the problems facing the world.

Some would argue that 'right wing' capitalism has led to inequity and that fosters resentment by the ignorant?

BTW I support capitalism, just playing devils advocate.

The extremes of left and right provide a system of checks and balances.

There is no more benefit to groups like the socialist worker than there is the BNP.

But when you see either one growing in support it has the effect of moving the center ground of politics. which is how democracy works.

Though given the OP the advantage of the right wing is that once you have labelled something as right wing you can ignore it as being irrelevant.

Is being racist a right wing policy?

i'm right wing. i'm not racist. i support the free market and non interventionist government. I support freedom for anyone to be whatever they want to be that doesn't harm others. that is why i'm right wing.

it seems to be that racism is in no way the preserve of the right. I'm sure there are many racist left wingers.

Someone said to me last week that the extreme left has spawned intellectuals with the desire to better mans condition, and the extreme right has spawned low foreheaded knuckle draggers with the desire to hurt people. This is quite true although I admit a generalisation.

What's really daft is the EDL are based on football hooliganism, i.e. fighting another club. So what do UAF do, organise a counter protest with flags saying smash the EDL, brilliant . Without an enemy the EDL would just disintegrate. When there are no Islamic extremists around the UAF fulfils that role.

There is a difference between extreme right or left though. You are clearly not extreme right wing.

Best not going there. It has a few economic left wing policies. To some that puts it next to the SWP on the political spectrum! :D The SWP is a far left party. It has little in common with the BNP. The BNP is something else.

Why does the EDL always come to London?

    Blimey. It's getting ridiculous.

I agree completely. Racism has bugger all to do with politics, class, skin colour or religion. People of all shapes, sizes and colours are racist.

That's why we have so many 'lefties' on here - cause they fancy themselves as intellectuals. Says it all.

London is our capital, it is where Parliament is and a lot of the main media headquarters. If you want to be noticed the most, it's the place to go. I don't recommend the north of Scotland as a place to get noticed!

Well maybe not but the point i'm making is that the issue is, almost by definition with extremism, not the right or left.

The BNP have a lot of socialist policies for example. we call them right wing because they are racist. they certainly seemed to quite well in the labour heartlands in their last round of success.

I'm proposing that there is actually no link between racism and the right wing of UK politics. You can be left or right and racist.

Having a couple of left-wing policies does not a left-wing party make, though. The Tories have one or two policies that the left would probably agree with, just as Labour have one or two that the right probably agree with. Does that mean the Tories are in fact lefties and Labour are righties? (Yes, I know Labour have drifted right from their old political position :p)

But they have left wing policies, hence left wing.

Racism isn't a right wing thing.

What are the BNP's right wing policies? other than being racist. which as has been said is not the preserve of the right.

The notion that "Right wing = racist. Racist = right wing" is something that those on the left love to spread. It's nonsense of course. Go to the traditional Labour working class areas and you will see plenty of opinions that sound as if they come from a BNP newsletter.
