that`s an excellent idea, if you shop at tesco you can get english heritage membership with clubcard points and they triple up so £15 in points is all you need.
Thank you for the heads up on that . As the weather is set to be nice on Monday, I will be going to Africa Alive, which is only about 90 minutes from me via Train & Bus. It isn't the biggest of parks but has about 75 different types of animals, so will get my yearly pass at the same time, that way I will be able to attend Banham Zoo in a few weeks & that has about 115 animals. My Dad is kindly taking me to Chester Zoo in a couple of weeks as well, so got lots of opportunities to improve on my skills.

if you get eh or national trust membership you can also get a carer in free, receipt of dla is the qualifier.
how easy is it to get to banham on public transport?

Wow that is great about the membership . Unfortunately getting to Banham is a bit of a bugger to say the least. Despite Banham being only anout 23 miles from where I live, it's nearest train station is about 6 miles from the actual zoo, so I would have to get the train to Attleborough for under a fiver return with my rail pass & then a cab to the zoo which is £12 each way. As much as I would love to visit Banham as often as possible, I would be looking at £30 every time I go.
The crazy thing is that it takes just under 2hrs to get to Colchester Zoo by public transport & the train fare would only cost £16 return, which is quite tempting as the yearly membership for there is only £26 if you get DLA. Ideally I will becoming a member of both Africa Alive / Banham & Colchester. So many great zoos in this country, just a shame I have to make do with public transport / cabs to get to them
^^ Hope you show us your pictures when you been to the zoo etc..i love animal pictures ..have a good day tomorrow
Thank you . Well my camera battery is fully charged, lens have been cleaned & everything is packed. So am only holding out for the weather now. But looks certain that I will be spending a few hours taking some snaps. Once the snaps have been uploaded onto Flickr, I will gladly put the link on here, after all I am not going to learn & improve on shots, if I don't show others for some criticism.
Well due to the trains getting cancelled yesterday, I never made it to Colchester Zoo, but I did make it to Banham Zoo. Here are a few of the shots I managed to do.

It is beautiful artistic shots like in the album above that really put me into my place as a total newbie in picture taking, you must be really proud of your work .
I finally got a telephoto lens last week & took it to the local plantation gardens, I understand that some of the flowers are over exposed, but I am still learning & am constantly referring to the dummies guide of my camera to help me to learn various things.
If I am having a good day health wise tomorrow & am strong enough to carry my equipment, then I will be going to a small wildlife park to attempt some animal shots for the first time with my camera.
Thank you!
This is a great place for wildlife photography and a good day out if it's near enough to where you live;

Wow that looks a great place for some lovely shots, I have just had a check & unfortunately it takes 3hrs 40 mins by train, so with a cab on top from Lingfield station, I would probably be looking at 4hrs each way, which is a shame, will see if there are any places like it nearer me.
You will be able to edit your RAW files and convert them to jpg....It's pretty basic, but great for starting out with.
If you are taking a shot of an animal head or a small animal or bird try using spot metering, it should help with the exposure.
Yes I have that software on my laptop as I used it for a HDR type effect on a view point shot, which had been taken on a misty day, as I never had any ND filters at the time, I used the software to make the photo a bit more decent. I do also have lightroom on my laptop, but have hardly used it. On my 450D I have it set as Raw+L so every picture saves in Raw & fine Jpeg. Thanks for the tip on spot metering tho.

I like those a lot, the first three in particular.

Are you shooting in RAW and using an editing programme?

Nice long exposure shot
Thanks everyone , even tho my feet are aching & I am drained today, I cannot wait to do some more shots.
I am shooting in Raw, but haven't indulged in lightroom or any other programme as yet for post processing.
Superb shots.
Thank you
