9-5 Jobs are better!

Some do more, depends on the job, but I hate mine, so 8 hours 5 days a week is enough for me, I need 8 hours for work, 8 hours for sleep, and the spare time I have left, is to do other stuff.

Plus, it's good, when you have wife and kids to go home to.

I prefer 7.30am to 3.30pm, missing most of the rush hour traffic.

I do miss the defined certainty of 9-5.

Since becoming a teacher I find term-time so hectic - there are simply not enough hours in the day. However the holidays compensate for it, so it's swings and roundabouts.

I worked shifts for many years - evenings, weekends, nights, public holidays. I'm now in a position with 9-5 hours and it's great. I don't care that I'm losing out on unsocial hours payments now because it's so much better for my general health and stress levels to know I can have all my evenings and weekends off (even though most days I work around 8.30-5.30 and don't get paid for the extra hour...)

I've only ever worked 12 hour shifts. They are so normal for me now I think standard working hours are too short!

Hi, what do you mean you don't get paid for the extra hour?

That's no life, working 12 hours, might as well live there.

    4x10 hours shift a week.

Can be tough those last hours but 3 days off a week is worth it.

My days off are Wednesday and Sunday, I don't work Sundays, Neither does my whole family, so its a family day basically.

We don't get paid overtime. We're expected to work our contracted hours. I'd only get extra if I negotiate to work, say, an extra day but that would have to be by prior arrangement with my manager.

No it's fine. I work 5 days, have 5 days off, work 5 days, have 5 days off etc.

Although having 5 full days off regularly does become quite boring.

Me too. I usually start at 7am.

In fact on nice Summer days, I'd be in at 6am if I could. I'd then leave at 1:30pm, and spend the rest of the day in the garden.

in my current job when i started almost 14 years ago i was on the nightshift 10pm-6am monday - friday but about 5 years ago i transferred to the day shift which is 6am-2pm & 2pm-10pm mon-fri a week of each shift pattern.

it's what you get used to i suppose but getting up at 4:30am isn't such a great thing but leaving work that day at 2pm to glorious sunshine makes it a little bit better; conversely having a lovely sunny morning and having to go to work for 2pm is a bit "meh".

Love my job . Or at least I did. 12 hour shifts nearly everyday recently because we are short staffed .

Night shifts are the worst because I wake up at lunchtime and then just wait to go to work

I do 12 hour shifts. You can basically discount doing anything on the days you work, but you do get a lot of time off. I only work 15 out of 35 days and that averages out at full-time hours (although I have a second job so work more).
