I was astonished to hear Ann Widdecombe on last nights Newsnight claim theres probably going to be a major breakthrough in alzheimers research soon and that this will elongate lifespan hugely(What does hugely mean-5 years-10 years ??) and contribute to a pensions crisis.
No internet research I have done has backed up this claim-very speculative claim presented as fact by Ann.She is not a scientist or expert in this field and I think its morally wrong of her to abuse her fame to falsely get peoples hopes up.
I was looking forward to seeing her on Strictly Come Dancing but at the minute I am just plain annoyed at her false/exagerated claims.

Precisely repelled or pushed back NOT cured.I dont dispute people are living longer and this effects pensions but I dont like hype about cures or glib talk.

Ironic that she's recently signed up to a show hosted by Bruce Forsyth. A man that undoubtedly would have been dead for at least the last twenty-five years if it wasn't for the miracle of modern science.

This is true - scientists on R4 reported it yesterday morning. Great advances will be made in the near future.
She served as the Shadow Health secretary ten years ago. So I suppose it's not outside the realms of possibilities that she knows stuff that's not in the public domain.
It is in the public domain and has been in the news this week on radio and tv.
