There could potentially be a situation in which the UK monarch ceases to be the UK monarch, but continues to be head of the various other countries left under the Windsor yoke from the days of yore.
What is more interesting (and pressing) is who will get the job of Head of the Commonwealth after the Queen passes away. It is not a hereditary title, yet Charlie has been taking over some of the duties associated with it. It seems to me that the Windsor family are jockeying for the job to be his.
Obviously there's no big clamour for an end to the monarchy but there's an awful lot of tosh spouted by it's supporters about how many tourists they bring in etc.
I believe that the most-visited city in the world is Paris and they chopped off their king's head 200 years ago!
I could be wrong but I don't think the millions of tourists who visit Britain each year actually get to meet the Queen in person........

You have a constitution that sets out what a Head of State can do. At present, only convention says that a monarch should be non partisan. We have absolutely no way of knowing or ensuring whether or not they are - we just have to trust them and the PM. For example, we know Charles has fired off missives on everything from health to education. We are not allowed to know either what he said or whether or not it was acted upon; in short, we have no idea if he is non partisan.

We have more than two parties, we have elections and the President can preside for a number of years after which elections are called again and a different president (possibly from a different party, even) can take over.
As is done in the US and any other number of democracies with Presidential Heads of State.

Why is the rest of the world's interest important? Does, say, the Republic of Ireland fret about whether or not foreign media is interested in it? Seems a very odd thing to be concerned about - very self-conscious, somewhat pathetic, and implies that without the Windsor family, the country is a non-entity.

Kevin Maguire is an idiot who hasn't considered the interest the rest of the world have in our Monarchy. Why make ourselves like the rest of the world. We have something unique - the last true hereditary Monarchy. If he doesn't like it he can always go to Ireland.
